Description The Life Cycle of the Aliens that are in K2K. They are, as you may have been informed by me, not mine in design. The Megaspawn, however, I don't know how it really looks like, so I just drew x3

It begins with the Alien Egg, which came from teh Alien Queen(which comes first? The Alien or the Egg? xDDD). From the egg, cultivates a Multiworm. The Multiworm feeds until it reaches the time to die. From the carcass of the Multiworm, comes four Hyperworm. Each feeds on the carcass, and goes looking for more food. They continuously feed on anything until they have all the necessary nutrients. They then become a Chrysalis. From there, multiple choice could be made. It could become a Popper, to serve as a walking time bomb; a Spitter, to spit at their nearest enemy and suck up their carcasses only to spit them out at another person later xD; a Skeletoid, which could fly thanks to its rather airy interior xD; an Anthropod(!), which is the grunt of the Alien army; a Psimorph, which floats and looks like a rotting dead body of an Anthropod. It is psychic ; and lastly a Megaspawn, a hulking giant with missle launchers for shoulders and disrupter blasters for fingers. I'm not too sure about the Brainsuckers, so I decided to put them as a bioweapon manufactured by the Skeletoid. Undisclosed here are the Alien Queen, the Micronoid, and the freakishly huge alien, the Overspawn, which needs a Gundam or an Ultraman(xD) to properly and easily defeat.

I have yet to finish Apoc, but I've finished the other two. But I still think they're pretty awesome.

Neither have I really, but me dad did. Was epic, the ending. The Aliens in Apoc was the best of the three, just cause they're so unique, and I had the best experiences playing the game in real-time with them. Especially in Popper situations.

Popper situations? Do tell.

Remember how just seeing a Popper moving in it's turn usually equates to the subsequent death of atleast one valued agent, irregardless of rank and skill(unless he/she is wearing the Disruptor Armour aka X-COM Armour, or equiped w/ shields)?

In real-time, just wearing the standard Megapol Armour can save your agent's life, if you run pass(as in ordering your soldier to run to a square behind the Popper) the Popper. Usually, it will cause the Popper to self-destruct a second or two late, allowing the agent to be further away from the centre of the explosion and thus saving his/her life(although may cause minor injuries atleast), and not to forget, the lives of other agents as well(only applicable if no other agent is within the vicinity of the "runner").

A lot of agents' lives were saved using this method. I also remember a triple Popper situation. Somewhat once in a lifetime, my agent came across three Poppers, one after another. She killed the first one from far, the second at the last moment(before self-destruct trigger range, she was using the Laser Sniper, so no explosive death), and the last one blew up, but she survived using the above technique. Was a helluva lot cooler to watch it all happen than to read it from here.

Huh. I must be playing differently, because I have yet to have anyone die from a Popper. I play Turn-Based (save for Stun Grappler Raids) and am currently playing in Beginner difficulty. Most times that Poppers manage to hit me, they do so point-blank. Unless my agent is at less than full health, they usually survive it unless there are dropped explosives strewn around.

My agents usually buy it after being Brainsucked. I hate those little buggers. That, or they are unlucky enough to run out of TUs just after coming across a bunch of Hyperworms or disruptor-toting Anthropods/Skeletoids. How deadly the higher-class enemies are has yet to be seen, though right now my opinion is that Megaspawn are highly overrated.

I just had a triple-Popper situation yesterday, while assaulting a downed Battleship. All I can say about it is "Hell yeah Toxiguns".

Guess it must be the difficulty setting. I play it on the 4th level of difficulty... the one just before superhuman.

Megaspawns... they are overrated, yes. Just a tough nut to crack, that's all. Nothing a couple of Toxin-C couldn't handle.

There's a perfect way to handle Brainsuckers. End your agents move proned. That way, when a Brainsucker jumps at him/her, the Brainsucker will fail and drop unconcious. It's a bug though.

Toxiguns are superb weaponry, yes. Best gun in the game next to the Disruptor Cannon(or what you call it again). My agents either carry dual DCs, or dual Toxi-s, because an agent can fire both weapons at the same time in real-time, at the cost of accuracy if it was to be two-handed weaponry of course. But you can never beat a hail of either fire, and accuracy is hardly an issue in close range. Just need above average agents.

Most difficult buggers IMHO would be the Psimorphs. Whilst a Micronoid could still Psionic your agents, a Psimorph is much harder to kill. And they never want to make it known to you their position, making hunting them down difficult.

I've already started doing that end prone trick, at least for my few non-Android agents. But they don't drop unconscious as far as I can tell, because if you move your agent and end turn without killing the Brainsucker(s), it/they will get up and go after them again. Which is why I always prime and drop a grenade before I move my agent on.

Now that the Anthropods and Skeletoids use shields, I always try to use my Toxiguns to kill them. And they're superb against Brainsuckers due to the low TU use.

I'm surprised that that Battleship I recovered didn't have a Psimorph on it. From what I've read, there should be at least one on Battleships and Motherships. For that matter, the lack of Micronoid aggregates was somewhat surprising too. I'd think Battleships would have everything short of Overspawn in them. And by the way, from what I've read the Micronoid aggregates have weak psi ability, they just tend to wear psi defenses down with constant attacks.

I guess your game version is different. Or you had it patched.

Mhm... actually, the Toxigun is the most economical weapon in the game if you don't bother with the DC.

Battleships... I've seen some without them before. Surprising initially, but you'd come to be happy for that if that happens(unless you are looking to capture them).
Motherships however... Motherships would have either of the two or both of them.

No patches here AFAIK.

And in all likelihood, I will definitely hate my first Psimorph mission, if those missions are anything like Ethereal missions from UFO Defense.

Most of my main killteam is made up of Androids. I just hope my two Mutant psis and my token humans can handle the psi assaults.

How many do you normally field in a mission?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Darth-Synge In reply to SkyWhiteFox [2008-06-28 08:58:04 +0000 UTC]

Depends on the mission. For Alien sightings and CoS raids I usually use a team of 6, but for UFO recoveries I use 8-10 depending on the UFO's size and how injured my agents are. The extra 2 are rotational and all 12 are used for Stun Grapple raids.

SkyWhiteFox In reply to Darth-Synge [2008-06-28 11:28:47 +0000 UTC]

I see a lot of thought put into it. I normally field one team only in realtime irregardless, but I've been thinking if I should bring two.

Me dad field up to the max when possible irregardless of the mission, but he always seems to have the tactics and long-term in-battle strategies to have ALL of them survive. Plus, he was turn-based in Superhuman.

He is. He has the first and second games, but the first one is in a floppy(as in a real floppy, not a diskette), so no playing that now I supposed, unless I go download the game somewhere. The second game's in the CD.

As downloads on the Internet, they're not hard to find, particularly the original DOS-based versions. Try Abandonia. Just be sure to use DOSbox if your system can't play DOS games.

I know where to get them. After all, I got Apoc from the net due to an unfortunate mishap which caused my collector's edition disc to shatter in the CD-rom drive.
