“Time until the Enterprise-C enters the rift?” Picard called out—after his own ship took a few more direct hits—blowing out stations and killing its First Officer in the process. Captain Picard didn't even have the time to grieve. Not when history's fate was at stake.

“52 seconds, sir.” Data reported from his station—knowing that the next few seconds were perhaps the most important ones. “Power couplings in forward phaser banks have been severed. Attempting to bypass.”

More hits registered on the battered starship. Engineering now reported complete containment failure. A breech was imminent. But how would such an explosion in such close proximity affect the temporal rift itself? Or the Enterprise-C?

“Report!”

“Phasers offline, Captain. We have no weapons!” One of the other surviving Bridge officers said in the now smoky haze of the bridge itself—with its life support failing and the Klingons demanding their immediate surrender.

“Do whatever it takes to make sure the Enterprise-C survives at all costs...!” He yelled—just as three more strikes rocked the Enterprise-D from close range.
