Marcel Doux Blanc▌▶ nickname(s) : Fame, Glamour, Vox, or Vanity
▌▶ age // birthday : twenty-one (21) // August 1st
▌▶ gender : male // he/him
▌▶ height // weight : 5’8” / 172 cm // 148 lb / 67 kg

▐ ███████████ ▌▶ BATTLE // INFO ◀ ▐ ███████████ ▌
InterferenceWith this power, no television is safe from this demon. Marcel’s powers are very similar to that of Samara Morgan’s from The Ring, allowing him to use most any household or storebound television as a means for haunting. The major ability he gains from this power is being able to use televisions as a mode of transportation, Marcel being more than capable of easily traversing from screen to screen as he sees fit. Although he can use TVs to get from one place to another, a majority of his haunting takes place within the screen itself which he’ll often lurk within until either being driven out of it or moving on.
While occupying a television, he can interact with whatever is displayed on screen, being able to gently manipulate how the events that take place in a film or television show are perceived by the viewer. This also extends to being able to alter the dialogue delivered during a commercial or news broadcast. The alterations he makes are brief and often happen subtly, the viewer needing time to reflect on what they saw or heard only to remember a small fraction of it. Marcel’s hauntings get progressively more aggressive and sinister the more the viewer consciously looks for his influence. Once he’s gained enough strength from their paranoia, he tends to make subtle appearances in the backgrounds of the shows he’s chosen to plague, only emerging from the television itself once he’s determined the viewer has had enough of his shenanigans.

▌▶ limitations & additions ;
▌▶ If a television is unplugged, smashed, or broken in some way, Marcel can’t use it.
▌▶ However, if a TV is simply turned off while he’s occupying it, he has no issue turning it back on.
▌▶ Smashing your TV while he’s in it won’t trap him inside or hurt him in any way which means you’ve just put yourself out a TV for nothing. If anything you’ve just inconvenienced him and have put a stop to his haunting within your household.

▌▶ abilities ;

ability two: All Seeing Screen [ LOCKED ]
With the addition of this ability, no device is safe. Prior to it, Marcel was only able to traverse through active televisions, but now he can easily slip through a number of screens. Be that a computer or any variant of mobile device, Marcel can use it to get from one place to another. Maybe be a little bit more wary of getting phone calls from unknown numbers.
CAN ; Any device that allows you to behold media qualifies. Can surf the web while occupying a device that’s connected to the internet, allowing him to haunt chatroulette sites or spooky chat rooms.
CANNOT ; If a TV is unplugged, then he can’t forcefully turn it on. Same can be said for desktop computers or mobile devices with dead batteries. He has to call you first before using your phone to teleport. If you hang up on him then you’ve effectively fended him off.

ability three: Do you like scary movies? [ LOCKED ]
Got somewhere to be? Phone calls are a little bit more sinister with the addition of this ability. Upon receiving a phone call, Marcel can either use the phone to teleport himself to the other OR teleport them to himself. When this occurs, the users cell phone will be left where they were previously and does not teleport with them. This ability can be used offensively if an enemy can be convinced to answer a phone, Marcel trapping them within.
CAN ; Phone calls occur from a different number every time as Marcel is not averse to stealing or buying new cell phones. This makes him very hard to block. The only way to be effectively safe from this is to not have a phone at all.
CANNOT ; Enemies may not be trapped within the “inbetween” forever and may be able to force themselves out after a few turns. Marcel’s calls can still be ignored which nulls this ability. “Omnilocked” individuals cannot be teleported without their consent and are immune.

ability four: Out of Body [ LOCKED ]
In combination with enough strength and a target with weak will, Marcel can briefly take control of his viewer’s body, trapping their consciousness within the television or screen they were previously viewing. This is done prior to making eye contact and can last for a little more than a few minutes depending on how much resistance the victim gives. This is usually used as a method of killing and reaping the souls of his victims, finding quick ways to kill the victim’s body before he’s forced out of it. If he manages to kill the body, the soul presently trapped within the television is thus damned to hell, Marcel completing his objective.
CAN ; This can be used offensively on most any lifeform, but is the most effective on humans he’s been “working on” for over a week. Mentally worn down people are the easiest to “body jack” and are ideal for this tactic.
CANNOT ; Be performed without a screen to trap the victim within. A phone or other form of mobile device can be used to supplement the lack of a TV if need be. Psychics or people with strong mental wills are very hard to possess if not impossible. Marcel can be exorcised out of a body which may result in spiritual lacerations on his metaphysical form, thus damaging him.
▌▶ notes ;
▌▶ Marcel may be responsible for a lot of unexplainable and violent suicides that have occured post the invention of film.
▌▶ He has worked on a contract basis previously and was summonable before to be used to “take out” the enemies of his contractees, those later becoming victims to his will by association due to the guilt felt afterwards.

▌▶ drawbacks ;

drawback one: Steel Will
Marcel’s powers have little to no effect on people who are more mentally steeled than he is. If he cannot effectively start scaring them or making them paranoid then he’s going to have a hard time breaking them down enough to do anything substantial. He usually preys on the weak and definitely needs a bit of assistance taking down stronger prey.

drawback two: Outage
His worst nightmare is a power outage. That makes him about just as useful as a box of matches in the pouring rain. Without any screens to use to his advantage, he’s practically grounded as far as things go and has little to no means to defend himself at that point. This can be lessened to a degree when his reach has been expanded to the possession of mobile devices and not just cinema or TV screens.

▌▶ bound level ; TWO!

▌▶ STATS ◀▐

[★★☆☆☆] intelligence ; below average
Marcel isn’t exactly the smartest demon you’ll ever meet. Even in all his years, he’s never bothered to really try and grasp human concepts of science and math. What a headache. He is, however, pretty street smart and can help hook you up with something illegal rather than help you out with your math homework. Though you kind of get the impression he’s not as airheaded as he’d like you to believe.
[★★☆☆☆] speed ; below average
He might be small, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to win a marathon. His drinking habits and lethargic attitude towards work dampens his overall speed, but he’s just decent enough to be able to slip through the cracks… usually.
[★★★☆☆] strength ; average
Pretty boy is surprisingly not the strongest. This does not account for his acrobatic ability, but being able to lift himself does not mean he can lift other people. He is easily overpowered once caught and the battle might as well as be lost once he finds he’s unable to get away.
[★★★★☆] stealth ; above average
Since he tends to literally live within the walls of a television, he can quickly blend into a wall of screens assuming they're readily available. This along with his methods of hiding amongst cast members in TV shows or film makes him terribly hard to spot once he's entered his "domain."
[★★★★☆] stamina ; above average
As a bit of a hobby, Marcel likes to hone his acrobatic prowess. This takes quite a bit of work and therefore he’s got a little bit of bulk to show for it. Most of Marcel’s strength is found in his core and legs along with a boost to his overall endurance.
[★★★★★] charm ; excellent
It’s very very hard to tell him no. Not only is he beautiful, but he’s got a smooth tongue to go with his looks. It doesn’t help that he’s a natural flirt and do whatever it takes to get what he wants out of people. Well… aside from violence, ideally.

▌▶ PERSONALITY ◀▐

[+] [ playful | coy | passionate | spontaneous | charming | creative | boisterous ]
[=] [ independant | easy-going | extroverted | insensitive | flirtatious | hedonistic ]
[-] [ untidy | impish | smug | perverted | vulgar | ravenous | reckless | dissolute]
PLAYFUL & FLIRTATIOUS
Marcel brims with a perpetual air of confidence. He carries himself freely without a hint of self doubt and acts out accordingly. He tends to only make fun of people lovingly and may strive to irritate his friends just to get a rise out of them. Although he may not do this consciously, it seems to be in his nature to flirt with just about anyone and everyone, of course being at least a little aware of boundaries as not to veer into coming off as creepy rather than friendly. He may be rather promiscuous in nature, but he doesn’t necessarily flirt with the intention to bed everyone and may often times do so without purpose. He’ll even playfully flirt with his friends, rather openly distributing gestures of affection regardless of if their relationship is romantically charged or platonic. Definitely that guy who sits in a friend’s lap in a casual gathering.
SPONTANEOUS & PASSIONATE
After spending a thousand lifetimes on this Earth, Marcel has found a lot to be excited about. Some demons may only choose to see the bad in the human race, but Marcel would much rather cling to the beautiful things they’ve created rather than focus on the war and tragedy. He’s very well versed on social issues and will passionately rant with you about a number of things along with lovingly gushing about artistic and musical movements if you give him the opportunity to. He loves a lot of things and he’ll be sure you know it. You’ll find, of course, that Marcel really is the life of the party with how he always seems to be brimming with energy, always ready to jump and take advantage of opportunities as they arise. He’s seldom someone you’ll find yourself getting bored of.
UNTIDY & EASY-GOING
All of this energy, of course, goes to the living part rather than tending to the aftermath. His habit of drinking profusely has gained him a shoddy memory and a lack of drive when it comes to clean up, making him an absolute pain to live with. Even if you’ve told him to do something, it’s very likely he’ll forget about it as soon as something else catches his attention. He’s extremely averse to confrontation and tends to avoid problems for as long as he can, especially if the solution to the problem isn’t exactly fun or if he’s well aware that he’s in trouble for something stupid. He’s extremely hard to argue with as he has a tendency to just shrug things off rather than get angry in response and he often has difficulty taking serious things seriously if he hasn’t read the situation correctly or doesn’t see what the big deal is. It’s challenging, if anything, to get Marcel angry with how mellow he is which may prove frustrating for people trying to get a rise out of him.
SMUG & CHARMING
That confidence of his is both annoying and attractive depending greatly on the context. Marcel is extremely self assured, knowing full well that not only is he beautiful but often times irresistible to many. He provides for some challenging temptation that few can deny and he has absolutely no issue using whatever visage he chooses to get what he wants out of people. Some people may read this intense love of himself as annoying, though others may discern some deeper level of conflict if they pay close attention to his methods. It’s not uncommon to see him acting like he knows something you don’t, because there’s a very good chance that he does. Being as friendly as he is, he usually becomes the friend that soaks up everyone’s dirty little secrets. One way or another, he’ll get dirt on people even if he doesn’t really intend to make use of it.
RAVENOUS & RECKLESS
Marcel’s thirst for attention is undying and relentless. He thrives both in the party scene and on stage under the guise of the world’s most beloved stars. Although he lives perpetually in the tides of a wobbling mass of partygoers, he can never seem to get his fill of the atmosphere. Starved for attention. Starved for anything. This insatiable hunger of his is barely stifled by his alcohol consumption and Marcel makes an effort to never be sober, lest he feel it clawing at him again. Being the party animal he is, he’s dabbled in a number of drugs to keep himself diluted, though he prefers alcohol over anything else. If allowed to get “drunk enough,” he can get a little destructive at times without even meaning to, but he remains rather lively despite it all.

▌▶ LIKES ◀▐
▌▶ clowns ; jesters, harlequins, and fools of all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds. has a peculiar affinity towards clown paraphernalia including dolls, costume parts, and makeup.
▌▶ birds, vermin, & bunnies ; adores pigeons! one of those people who wants to catch and hold “pest animals” because he thinks they’re adorable. self identifies as a skunk.
▌▶ music ; appreciates the medium in general. likely followed most music movements as they coarsed through human history. big faves are punk rock, grunge, and experimental artsy music. will sing along to stuff he really likes and will absolutely dance.
▌▶ going out ; extroverted by nature, he loves going out and experiencing the world. prefers to be surrounded by people rather than staying “home.” doesn’t care if they’re partying, shopping, or eating out as long as he’s not bored and cooped up somewhere. in addition to that, marcel smokes socially, but drinks frequently regardless of the time or place.
▌▶ scary movies ; as long as they’re not about ghosts or demons cos that shit ain’t scary. enjoys a good bad horror movie every now and again, but he does prefer genuinely scary horror movies over the silly ones. views movies as a whole as an art form and critiques them as such. may occasionally complain about how poorly shot or lit some scenes are.
▌▶ musicals, drinking, theatre, coffee, film & cinema, art, & rumors.
▌▶ DISLIKES ◀▐
▌▶ bossy bossy ; he absolutely will not stand for being bossed around, especially by people who have no authority over him. even then, he can’t help but be a little rebellious against his superiors, preferring being a free spirit with no rules. doesn’t care for your opinion on how he dresses and would appreciate not being told how to dress. he can’t stand when people won’t admit to being wrong or hear criticism on things they like and he definitely cannot tolerate people who blindly believe everything they hear or read online.
▌▶ upkeep ; he is definitely not the cleanest person. his personal hygiene is fine, but he takes care of himself better than he takes care of his living space. he won’t go as far as leaving old food out and unattended, but he might be guilty of leaving dirty plates around places he tends to loaf around, continuously telling himself he’ll get to it later. not very happy about being made to do chores of any form, but is just compliant enough to be convinced to cooperate.
▌▶ serious conversations & intimacy ; marcel likes being reassured in a relationship just as much as anyone else does, but he can only handle so much validation and sappy conversation in one sitting. he doesn’t hate intimacy nor does he avoid laying down the law when necessary, but he’d prefer these conversations be brief and to the point before he runs out of substantial things to add. if a conversation is too serious for too long, he might try find some way to disrupt it with a bit of silliness. he tends to get a bit more spontaneous the more stressed he is, especially when he’s put on the spot in conversations like these.
▌▶ routines & boredom ; if there’s one thing marcel doesn’t understand, it’s people who are content doing the same goddamn thing every day of their lives. people who are perfectly happy living in their little bubble and not trying anything different-- especially if they’ll happily eat the same thing everyday. he cannot begin to rationalize that. in addition to that, he dreads being bored and will try to keep himself as entertained as possible, usually keeping himself preoccupied with something. the only time he’ll slog around the house is if he really overdid it and is hungover as all hell.
▌▶ being manhandled ; i mean, nobody really likes being picked up or moved around against their will. and due to Marcel’s size-- which he’ll adamantly tell you is average and not small-- he tends to get picked up a lot even if he’s made it very clear he’d much rather his feet remain planted firmly on the ground. his childish and rambunctious personality often results in people treating him like he’s a child despite his age which he’s grown to loathe over the years.
▌▶ sugary drinks, getting lost, the bandwagon mentality, strong fragrances, & exclusion.

▐ ███████████ ▌▶ HISTORY ◀ ▐ ███████████ ▌

▌▶ COMING SOON ◀▐
To a theatre near you-

           The oldest surviving motion picture to still “walk” among us today is a short 3 second silent film aptly named “Roundhay Garden Scene” that was filmed and rendered in 1888. The production of the film garnered both the desired result and also an unintentional byproduct. What the filmmakers hadn’t realized is that recording the human form like that harnessed just enough energy from the subjects to trap a bit of life within the film, thus granting consciousness to a creature that had been floating thoughtlessly amongst man since it’s very early beginnings.
          A demon known only as Vox was not born via some unholy union. No lamb was slaughtered to draw him forth from the ether. Rather, Vox was born from the suspension of disbelief, the passion flowing out of each and every performance, and the utter faith the audience had in the existence of the characters being enacted within both film and writing. The belief in the lie that was fiction and the utter immersion in what was happening on screen that drove several fearful people out of the movie theatre during the very first showing of “Arrival of a Train” in 1895.
          Before this, Vox existed only as a faint echo of an idea, his essence being as old as when man first started to communicate. In essence, he was communication and the sharing of ideas. He is the old cave paintings in the Chauvet Cave. He is writing, art, and music all wrapped up into a single entity, personifying the creative spirit and the mediums we use to communicate our deepest feelings.
          For a while after gaining consciousness, the demon lurked timidly behind the big silver screen, watching the mortals that dwelled beyond it attentively, almost as focused on them as they were on the screen. He grew steadily with the advancement of cinema and only found his voice when films were graced with sound in 1927 when the very first “Talkie” hit the big screen. It wasn’t long after this that he craved connecting with his human audience as television had just come to be that same year, so the demon didn’t waste any time reaching out to them.

          Attention felt nice for a long while, but nothing struck him the same way that fear did when the audience fled from the theatre thinking a train was going to plow them over. What he wanted most was to try and recreate that same spike of adrenaline… so unfortunately his first real interactions with humans weren’t exactly civil.

          Vox is ultimately responsible for starting the mythos surrounding bizarro television broadcasts that people can’t explain. “True stories” posted on Reddit or creepypasta forums revolving around catching strange cursed episodes of a television series they thought they knew are a result of his influence. Fortunately a lot of fiction has spawned around this genre to pad out the real instances of it, resulting in a lot of cringeworthy “lost episodes” of childrens cartoons among other things. These stories do bare some truth to them whether they’re aware of them or not, but Vox has shown no sign of changing his methods since he began reaping souls.
          His influence on television varies greatly from person to person as his goal was and is to try and pick at the things that genuinely disturbed his audience. Each viewer has a specific fear and he intended to tap into it to try and get the rush he felt before. He started small, simply modifying what kind of dialogue was exchanged between characters as he gradually worked up to imposing grotesque imagery on screen, seeking to unnerve his viewer with terribly inhumane plotlines around scarily realistic (or exaggerated) scenes of abuse among other things. He sought to impose elements of his victim’s life into his perverted showings. Maybe a trauma that they had suppressed or a horrible accident their young adolescent mind tried to bury deep in their subconscious. Anything at all to pry some ounce of fear out of his viewer. Once paranoia set in and he had them hooked, he only got more aggressive with his tactics as they began consciously looking for anything suspicious, treading foolishly into his grasp.
          It wasn’t uncommon for his victims to grow frustrated when their friends and family wouldn’t believe them when they described how the events occuring on TV seemed like a personal attack on them. Many tried to catch his work with various methods of recording, only to find they had recorded either a completely normal episode of their favorite sitcom or harsh static for a good half an hour.

-

           As a demon, Marcel’s main focus has always been his job, but of course he has made time to experience what life outside of work was like. And boy has he experienced a lot of things. He’s acquired a deep fondness for art and human culture and often seeks human connections outside of soul collecting. He’s had more than a few romantic relationships with humans of both sexes and has grown rather accepting of most anything when it comes to identity and sexuality.
         “Marcel” is a name he picked up not long after acclimating himself to life outside of the talking box. His full name was steadily pieced together out of words he decided he connected with. Although people within the United States believe themselves to be the pinnacle of today’s film industry, film actually found it’s beginnings in France and thus Marcel’s beginnings are also seeded there. He has done a lot of traveling in his time, but were he given the option, he’d continue his hauntings within the European area for as long as he possibly could and was only drawn to Florida as the chainmail was sent out.
