Remember that when comparing my art to the render that I only had low-quality screens of a manga to use as a reference. /edit

So, the other day the guys at SEGA gave us a small sample of some of the smaller details of the Sonic Colors story. Of those bits & pieces, there were two that stood out for me...

"SA-55, the round red robot also known as “Ergo” by fans who appeared in Sonic Unleashed will return, but slightly more jaded than before. Oh and by the way SA-55 ISN’T his name… his name is actually “Orbot”"

"Orbot also has a counterpart this game… who we’ll be revealing next week."

I was, to say the least, VERY delighted! Not only did Orbot, or "Ergo" as many called him, fill the much-needed role of "sidekick" for Eggman, but he was one of my favorite new characters from Unleashed! To hear of his return in Colors, sporting a snazzy new red paint job & aided by a new counterpart no less, made me very happy.

But then I began to wonder, what would this new companion look like? Would he be a simple recolor of Orbot, or would he be completely in contrast to the small, spherical robot we all love & know? Well, I didn't have to wait long...

So, as you can see, Cubot (which I believe is what he's gonna be called) was revealed in this promotional tie-in manga. He will be Orbot's counterpart in the game, and will hopefully be returning in future installments as well. If he does, the we're looking at the Scratch & Grounder of the modern day Sonic Games!
