Description
A Sangheili female checks on her clutch before continuing with her duties.Gods...it's been months since I've properly drawn anything! Damn lack of motivation and Art Block in general. What finally got me out of it (at least, long enough to do this) was a member on the HBO board asking to depict a Sangheili female (it's been YEARS since I've drawn a fem Sangheili), though even then, it took me nearly two weeks before I finally got something down.
That said, I'm not completely happy with it, mostly because I am still trying to figure out how to apply the new info on the fems gleaned from 'The Thursday War (apparently they smell like 'dry feathers' and 'don't look much different from the guys').
Oh and before anyone blows a gasket over the 'egg' thing there: read the comic Bloodlines, particularly issue 3. Yes, Sangheili are EGG LAYERS!

Oh. My. Goodness I LOVE THIIIIIIIIIIIIIS!!!
Its just so lovely! We rarely ever see anything about Sangheili reproduction anywhere and this is such a grand portrayal! And the quality of the piece itself! GAAAAH!
Just one thing, she's in what appears to be guard gear. Interesting occupation for a female Sangheili, (different keep maybe?) but regardless, I love this!

From what I've gleened from official fiction: females have the responsibility to guard their home as well as domestic stuff. Thus, they know how to kick ass as well as the boys.

One thing we should account for in Thursday war. I may not remember correctly, but isnt it a human who gives thatt opinion?

Their appearance? Or reproductive methods?
If the former, it's a fairly safe statement: the book implied that if the Unggoy didn't refer to the Sangheili as 'Lady/Ma'am'(I forget which atm), Phillips would not have known at first glance that the fem Sangheili he was looking at was a fem.
If the latter: I don't think ANY in-canon human knows how Sangheili reproduce (that one scienist chick may have asked Jul such a question, but I don't remember), so they probably used the general term 'born'.

It was the former. And that comment, since he was human, explains what it says. He wouldnt be able to tell facial differences from one to the other, so male to female would probably be just as hard unless there was obvious sexual dimorphism, which obviously, there is not. However I am sure to Sangheili eyes, males would look all manly, big, and strong, the females would be pretty..lol but still intimidating.

Heh, what is 'pretty' to them though is kind of unknown, especially in physical aspects.

Lol very true. But anyway, I'm just bringing up the point because, lets say you put two dog(or cats, for you), a male and a female from the same litter, right next to each other, if you didnt know them and didnt look, you would have a hard time figuring out which one is male, which female.

Though in the Cole Protocol and either Glasslands or The Thursday War, Sangheili use born

Then why use 'hatched' in the comic? Besides, I 'have' heard 'born' (and birth) used for beings hatched from eggs.
Regardless, I prefer egg laying. as it makes them more 'alien'.

Well that is your preference, but please don't state it as fact. Why use born when hatched is more descriptive. Hatched may have been used to the writer idea of an interesting story, not every word is checked in a comic or book. On a controversial subject such as that the very basic meaning of the words need to be taken into account.

Same to you: don't imply they give live birth as a statement of fact. Plus the use of the word 'born/birth' may not have been checked while the books were in editing (heck, the editors may have considered it such a trivial thing as to ignore it). Since both hatched and birth/born has been used, it could go either way.

They're the same in terms of general meaning, really; both are descriptive terms for being brought into this world, are they not?
Until some concrete evidence is brought forward, I say people go either/or because, in the end, a character is brought to life.
