Description
A painting I did for a Hawaii-themed campus gallery show. I got in!
This is a Hawaiian honey creeper (‘I‘iwi) drinking out of a yellow hibiscus. Originally, I was going to try something realistic, but after sketching it out I wasn’t feeling very into it. I decided to switch it up and do something stylized, and I really like the way it came out. It was fun making all the swirly branches and leaves.

Has a story book and medieval art vibe (because of the perspective, esp in relation to the eyes). I can see the Hawaii theme as well I suppose, in that the piece is bright and colorful.

The colours give this impact and energy. It`s a bird with a mission. The leaves and flowers look happy somehow. Delightful. Definitely a favourite.

These bright colors definitely remind me of something tropical! I love how the spectrum of colors you used gives it that vivid look. The way you made the bird and flowers warm colors and then used cooler colors for the background helps the bird and flowers stand out nicely, too.
