I know that Rusty was bought by the SR directly from Ruston & Hornsby; but, nevertheless, this seems like one of those "what would/could have been" situations where we see Rusty before a transfer to the SR. Historically accurate or not, it still looks brilliant.

Yeah, got a little head of myself with this one I'm afraid and thought I recalled that he was simply re-guaged like the TR's secondhand Midlander Basically i've been slogging on an edit for about a fortnight as I want it perfect (should be ready for uploading in a day or two) so when I found this postcard on e-Bay I figured it would be great for doing a quickie on the side. It arrived in the post yesterday and as it was literally a face plant it was pretty straight forward to edit but when I was uploading it to DA I finally decided to re-read his bio and bugger....oh well but as the photo is still a good-un I'm sure I can rework it into a proper Rusty for my gallery Anyway cheers.
Oh btw I decided to ask about the 409 thing on SiF and no one else seems to have picked up on any reason for Frieda's given number and I can't see it listed in the TTTE Wikia either. Anyway glad it came up in our conversation

Ah well, we all make slip-ups from time to time; we can always have a wee laugh about it afterwards if we wish. And anyway, what matters is that it's a good-un as you said.
Yeah, I'm quite glad Frieda's given number came up in our conversation. 'Twas a pretty simple, yet effective in-joke on behalf of Arc (or Jam-filled now, at least I think that's their name now; but I digress).

Is this a different engine? It appears to be shorter than the original Midlander, and has no buffers.

I intended this to be Rusty before he came to the SR but at the last moment re-read that he was brought directly from Ruston & Hornsby Ltd....I might redo this one proper to make into No.5, as there are not many coloured photos of Midlander in his original form but for now at least he's just another class member. This engine is from the Amberley Chalk Pits Railway but I know nothing of it's or the engines's history I'm afraid.

Well this upload as it currently stands is not Rusty but I presume a hook goes through the bar seen on his front and that this slow paced railway used a single central non-buffer type system.
