This is my favorite picture in your collection, yet I don't know why.

It could simply be the fact it's a timeless and joyful Edgar Hodges painting but there's something about it that reminds me of Unscheduled Stops

Aye it does look better with a full background and no text Running out of the better Edgar pics to adapt i'm afraid but still a few left in reserve if I put the effort in to fill in the annoying text boxes and cropped sections...might have one more to submit before the start of next week.

I love Hodges's contribution to the RWS so it's always nice to give his somewhat forgotten work fresh exposure. This one does have a nice Callandale feel to it minus the stream, perhaps it's lower down where 'Thomas and the Guard' took place

It is. I’d go so far to say he’s one of the sometimes forgotten artists of the RWS

Wow, Thomas looks fantastic and so does his faithful coaches.
Who made this illustration?

Good ol' Edgar made it for the back cover of......
The faces are edited hybrids but derive from later annuals, David Palmer I believe but Annie's bits might of been done by Owen Bell.

"Good morning!" greeted Thomas, but the cows didn't answer.
"...Nevermind," he said to himself. "They're too busy with their breakfast."
