Description

"He’s a clever invention,

 you know his intention,

is to help whenever he can.

 If you want something sorted

 and also transported

then Albert will take a van.

 His name is Albert! Albert!

He’s Albert the Small Passenger Loco!

 He’s there at the double,

 whenever there’s trouble.

With water and coal and pedestrians!

 The things that he takes,

 have just what it takes,

 whenever going to destinations!

 His name is Albert! Albert!

He's Albert the Small Passenger Loco!

 He’s a Sharp, he’s cool, he’s nobody’s fool!

He’s Albert the Small Passenger Loco!

If you’ve been dropped in it,

 he’s there in a minute,

 that’s faithful Albert’s Way!

 He’s got no pretention

He’s just a useful invention that always saves the day!

 Hooray! For Albert! Albert!

He’s Albert the Small Passenger Loco!

He’s a Sharp, he’s cool, he pulls like a mule!

He’s Albert the Small Passenger Loco!"

I am guessing this is Millom Station?

Finally found my copy, says it's the down platform of Dalton station.

It's described wrong then mate. In Pre-grouping and even afterwards the lines towards the company's headquarters was known as the up line.
Bad artists impression.
Also I never knew that the steps to the road bridge were once covered hence why I thought it was Millom.

Well it's certainly not based on a pic i've seen but i'm less familiar with the lower stations of the network so never questioned it, hmm.

Yep.
Alber(t) from the tune of the Fifth Musketeer cartoon.

Well done indeed.

With so many younglings I was beginning to wonder if anyone was going to get the reference
Anyway glad you like it, though if you happen to come up with an alternative suggestion for the pedestrians+destinations area of the song I'm all ears, as the change from the original lyrics there doesn't roll brilliantly IMO.

Ta
Umm it's difficult to answer in short but basically I do all the groundwork on Word Document and then do a bit of tidying up on photoshop (Pixelmator in my case). First I'll come across a painting or photo that I think will be ideal for Awdryfication. Sometimes I'll download these from the internet but otherwise I scan them from books. The same is true for the faces. If they're TV ones I usually get them from the TTTE wiki as it contains many high quality images, in which case I 'screenshot' but if they're from the RWS books or annuals I'll scan them. Whichever option I then crop the faces. Head on ones are easy as they're circular but if they're side on or are diesels it's more tricky and you have to keep going around the circumference of the face a bit at a time.
With a steam engine I always blank out the smokebox hinges using the surround metal and if it's a photo I also blank out the smokebox door,

i1340.photobucket.com/albums/o…

as I add some transparency to the face to help it blend and anything lighter or darker tends to show through.
Wth the face then added on top that could potentially complete things but sometimes parts of the engine like brake pipe or a smokebox handrail needs to be reinstated, as had to be done with Albert above. With the face ruffly positioned in it's final place you can work out how much of the original image you need to screenshot and crop and then basically you layer those bits on top of the already added face.
I can go into proper step by step detail if you want but if trying it yourself I recommend starting with simple face plant projects. An engine like Flying Scotsman without the smoke deflectors would be a good one for example as you do not have to re-ID his given number or worry about the changing the livery etc.

Thanks It's not my best or most intensive edit I'll admit but I've always liked the Victorian engine and I thought it would be nice to show him in his earlier 2-4-0 form.

Isn't Albert from the Railway Series a tank engine...

Ahh, I didn't know he was originally a tender engine. That's cool and makes me appreciate this image even more.

Yarp. Annoyingly the FR didn't christen a lot of their engines but 'Small Passenger Loco' seems to be what they were originally called, not sure if that moniker transferred over to the seven that were rebuilt into tank engines though. It's one of his sisters but I do have another painting of a S,S&Co engine waiting in the wings to be Awdryfied. Would you prefer to see it as a 2-4-0 or a 2-4-2T?

I am not really fussed over Albert that much. My favourites locomotives are all the Skarloey engines and Bill & Ben.

Thanks. His time under the spotlight was brief but I always liked him in 'Avalanche' and I do love his Victorian design in general so thought it would be nice to show him during his main line glory days
