Very nice work with this picture of Stuart/Peter Sam.

Thanks. The overlaying of the buffers, the face, lining, the number and nameplate aside it's just a recolour though so I can't take the credit. Wish I could paint even half as good as Mathew Cousins but my skill are limited to photoshopping I'm afraid, still it does make a nice MSR scene.

Thanks, glad you like it  You don't get more golden age picturesque on the MSR than Stuart happily puffing along on a nice summers day.

Stuart/Peter Sam has been another big favorite of mine. He's a happy guy with a hard-working attitude, a perfect example of good things coming in a small package.

Aye Peter Sam is pretty much the 'perfect' character amongst the stable and it's hard not to like him. I'm not sure if it was ever published in Germany but your english seems to be quiet fluent so if you have any interest in the Talyllyn railway I would recommend finding a secondhand copy of 'Railway Adventure'. It's about the first two years of the preservation movement and I found that Tom Rolt writes it in a very engaging way. Anyway from reading it I really got the impression of why Awdry made Sir Handle the boiler half empty personality and made Peter Sam his polar opposite 'boiler half full' to compliment in the 'Four Little Engines' book, plus it covers a few of the real events that were adapted in the series

I'll see if I can get my hands on a copy of Railway Adventure sometime.

Now the reason why my English is so fluent is that I don't even live in Germany. For my whole life, I've been living in the United States, but my ancestors came from Germany around the late 19th Century. I know very little German apart from numbers.

Ah sorry it does say you're a yank in your profile, that does explain the excellent english

I'm not peer pressuring you or anything but I tried a quick look on Amazon out of curiosity to the small railway's distribution prowess. This is the badger I was describing, one going for 78 cents.

Anyway Cheers.

He seems to be very much enjoying the idyllic scenery around him...I do wonder who did the original illustration; because they've done incredibly and, I think, ought to have illustrated the Railway Series (though, that's just personal opinion of course).

Aye a nice quite run on a fine day during the Mid Sodor Railway's golden age

The illustration was by Mathew Cousins and I totally agree with you about being a RWS candidate artist as he was the person who also did the majority of the paintings located on the Bluebell Railway that I adapted as well. I would post the painting of No7 for you to see the differences but this Corris painting was made for the sale of this years Christmas cards so I better not and I can't seem to find a link for it in their shop either for some reason, might be out of stock.

Indeed it was.

Mathew Cousins...might have to look him up at some point and see what else he's done such as those Bluebell Railway paintings you mentioned because, just from this one painting alone, he is a fantastic illustrator; and, look, if it's best that you don't post the painting of No7, then that is completely understandable.

Yeah doing a quick google search on him he's made quite a few more paintings than I had realised. I prefer using a book that I can  high quality scan over using downloads for my edits but very little of his work his been published as far as I know, maybe one day.
Oh I figured this watermark would be a good way around the issue

Well, having had a look at some of his other works, I can certainly say that my case for him being a perfect candidate for illustrating the Railway Series still stands true; they do look absolutely stunning. If I'm going to be brutally honest, they do look like the next level up from Kenney, Peter and Gunvor Edwards..if you take my meaning.
As for the watermark, I think it could potentially work.

I must say his two P class tanks in ROD livery is quite tempting to use  I've never seriously considered looking into commissions as i'm hardly Richy Rich but given the amount he has made for the Bluebell it might be interesting to inquire how much he charges as some classes are never likely to be painted....well maybe if a long lost rich aunt dies or something

Hmm? Did the link I added at the bottom of my last reply not work? It's basically his painting with a cartoon sun I added quickly but the link does work on my end at least.

Well, it's always best to ask about something than to not have asked at all; as the old saying goes. And, if you do decide to make use of more of his artworks, I'd be very interested to see how you go about your edits.

No, no..the link was fine; I do think that it's good idea to have something like that as a watermark so as not to breach copyright or anything.

I'm a bit stacked with some commitments on SiF for the mo but i've got a few paintings that would be good starters for editing, will give you sort of walk through when I start them, probably just after new years.

Sorry, haven't been too active on DA recently but Happy New Year to ya   I've taken a few snap shots of the K2 photo I've been editing tonight as I thought it would be a good one for a tutorial....it might be easier if I PM you on SiF though as it will be picture heavy.

It's alright Sleeper; Happy New Year to you too. And you're more than welcome to PM me on SiF if it's a wee bit too picture heavy.

I just did. Apologies for all the typos and missing words, think i'm dyslexic to some degree or at least when using a key board. As I mentioned though I can send you a nice simple painting for doing an Oliver conversion if you want to give that a try but no pressure and i'm sure you have your own hit list.

Anyway all the best.

It's quite alright Sleeper, I still understood what you were saying there. And I think I might give Oliver a go first since he seems to be a pretty easy locomotive to have a go with; that and I don't really have a hit list of locos to do as of now.

Cheers.
