Description
Taken on a beach in denmark. We found this german helmet from WW2 inside an old bunker. The knife and dogtag belong to a friend of mine. Enjoy!

Life that was, life that is, and life that will be, all wrapped up in one neat photograph. Personally, I would like to see this in black and white. Due to the age of the helmet, it would have illustrated it with much more effect.
There is reflection off the helmet. Judging the way the sun is shining, it's possible the angle wasn't quite right, but adding a slight more contrast would bring out the details of the dogtag and helmet. Again, if it was shot in b/w, those reflections would balance itself out.
Where the knife lies, you could imagine that this soldiers death was a slice to the throat, or stabbed. I think positioning the knife the other way and slightly more downward would make it less cluttered.
You can see the shadow on the left side where the strap is; gives almost the look of a shoulder. So by repositioning the knife, and stepping back about a foot, you would almost be able to see a body outline that would give it more realism.
Otherwise, the entire photo tells a story. I absolutely do love it for the realism.

When exactly was it found? I mean, you don't think of finding that sort of thing these days. One thinks all the cool stuff has already been found. Like the American Civil War: you're lucky if you find a minnie ball, which was a conical shaped bullet new at the time. Obviously you probably don't find clothing after 150 years, and there were no helmets, although they sometimes had crude breastplates of flat iron that did not work at all.

You can find such things surprisingly often at some places here and they are cheap stuff if you want to buy them. It took us a lot of effort and digging to get inside the flipped over bunker and this was our reward.
