Thanks. Well, now that's a toughie...
For most experienced spriters, they would pobably tell you that it isn't very hard. But that would be because they've had lots of practice. For me, personally?
When I do the intro sprites I have a huge page of blank templates to work with. I generally sprite out how the character is supposed to look and the clothes etc. Colour it. Then shade and highlight. That always seems to be a little tedious in my books. Especially when you have mutiple layers. Then, when the four frames are done, I upload in Gimp, putting each frame on a different layer and watch it 'playback'. Sometimes if the animation looks a little 'wonky', I'll edit a few pixels here and there until I'm happy with how the final result looks. So for me, the animation part takes a little bit of tweaking every now and then.
But this is because I'm not a general spriter. I do it on occasion, but I prefer digital drawings.
So all in all, for me, spriting takes a little while. Sometimes up to 4 days, especially if I'm not on my computer all hours of the day.
But, I just show the four frames as a sprite sheet, and have an animation cause I know some people will want to ask how I go about it, like you have.
I hope this answered your question!
