Thank you. You can see alot of arts craft movement inspiration in it. I was thinking of Rene Lalique's dragonfly woman pin.

I ahvent seen hellboy II yet but, visualy it looks neat. Pan lab I have I even made a faun sculpt from the movie.
This was meant to be a gate in a story I made up. I just built the female first and gave her wings then made an artnoveau gate shape..edited it till it looked good to me.
I think the more you use your imagination the stronger it gets then next thing you know you cant shut it off! I have a bunch of crazy worlds and characters in my head.

Im waiting for it to come out on dvd The pan based peice is on my website ,but I can post pics here. I realy wasnt satisfied with his level of detail and realism.
Nope you have to get used to not giving a rats ass about others opinions..people are too diffenrt in their taste and they dont always know what you are trying to do with your vision.
Cool. Id love to see

Were kinda programed since childhood to listen to what we're told and to obey authority figures.. even though in some cases they dont know anymore than we do. No wonder it gets so hard to listen to what we want and think is best!
As for self asteem a million and one things attack that everyday!

Artists tend to go through alot of the same doubt stuff and mental patterns. Its like were a diffenrt species of human.
I know people thought my work was childish crap and Id show it and get the sounds of crickets chirping. Once I started selling it I was realy scared and didnt think anybody would buy. I listed my first figure online for $75 and I thought who's going to pay that much? But it went up to 200 and I was sooo happy! Now I can make 4 times that.

Id like to make more art nouveau objects..buildings even and jewelry. Its alot easier in 3d software though. have you ever played the pc game Siberia? It's got wonderous designs!

I'd really love to see you try your hand at some jewellery. I love the art nouveau styling. I haven't played Siberia, but I will go google it now for images and see what comes up. Thanks for the heads up!

Id like to... Im sure my jewelry would be similar to my sculptural work... maybe some day with a lost wax method since that is the most sculptural like. Polymer clay can be used for beads and such but, its far too delicate for tiny unsuported vines like in art nouveau. I dont know the first thing about how to start such a venture and probably its expensive.
I did design a gold oroboros torque in 3dcg. Ive always wanted to see it as a real peice of jewelry.

let me guess.... 3ds max? i recognise the texture in the background i think
very nice design. make sure to use smoothing groups to dictate ridges and joins to avoide too much of the "melty plastic" look.

Sleetwealth In reply to irishlostboy [2008-08-07 04:15:10 +0000 UTC]
Yup its max3.1 about 6 years ago now. I dont recall anymore what textures I used ,but it probably came with the program. Smoothing groups...thinking meshsmooth? Eh rusty... not sure anymore of the tool names. Thank you though

There are perks to working in cg. First you can animate a scene with wind blowing, eyes blinking.. bringing life to an imaginary world, then also scale isnt an issue you can blow it up huge to do the tiniest detail then shrink it down for an amazing level of realism.
It appealed to me to have no limits..But I did miss having my hands on an actaul medium....plus I never could have gotten an industry job. This way with sculpting I can make a living.

irishlostboy In reply to Sleetwealth [2008-08-10 06:09:40 +0000 UTC]
ya, actually working in CG is quite tough.
looking at what you do, you should have a play with zbrush and a wacom tablet. it is far more sculpty than max. i am sure you know this already, but just throwin it out there just in case.

Sleetwealth In reply to irishlostboy [2008-08-12 05:26:30 +0000 UTC]
Yeah Ive see z brush around for a while ,but just never tried it. It looks like it could be more intuitive like sculpting. I didnt know you could use a wacom to sculpt with.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
irishlostboy In reply to Sleetwealth [2008-08-12 06:55:52 +0000 UTC]
ya, a wacom is really what it is designes for. the interface is a bit wierd in comparison to most other 3d apps. this is because it is optimised to be used with wacom. the pressure sensitivity is vital to getting smooth sculpts going. it is the closest you can get to sculpture on a pc i think. with the advantage of an undo.

Maybe a mini with some garden setting or at least grass.. it would make a nice diarama for some figure to stand in. its easy to make clay look like metal too.
