Joyboy (literalmente "menino alegre") é o nome de um personagem oriundo ao folclore caribenho, dito ser o espírito que personifica a necessidade humana de dançar, cantar e de se alegrar. Dizem que ele sorri perpetuamente para todas as fraquezas e problemas da humanidade, e cura os problemas humanos através de um ritmo irresistível reproduzido pelo seu tambor. Quem ouve a música tocada por Joyboy é automaticamente obrigado a dançar e cantar junto, até sacudir o "manto negro do desespero" dos seus ombros. Alguns músicos de jazz já alegaram terem capturado os ritmos do Joyboy, mas suas tentativas de reproduzir seus efeitos mágicos jamais chegaram perto de ocorrer.

Joyboy não é um personagem muito famoso, e o pouco que se sabe a seu respeito provém de tradição oral e de canções, em particular no Haiti. Os autores Michael Page e Robert Ingpen em seu livro The Encyclopedia of Things That Never Were dizem que é provável que Joyboy tenha migrado da Africa Ocidental para o Caribe através dos escravos.

O nome Joyboy ganhou bastante notoriedade graças ao mangá e anime One Piece, onde já foi citado várias vezes ao longo dos anos, e que, até o momento dessa publicação, ainda não é claro se é um título ou uma identidade que alguém possa possuir. No recente capítulo 1043, foi revelado pelo elefante gigante Zunisha que Joyboy retornou, e ele referia-se ao protagonista Monkey D. Luffy que acabava de ser derrotado e dado como morto pelo vilão Kaido. O mistério de anos acerca do que Joyboy significa na obra parece estar perto de terminar..

Anyone who hears the music played by Joyboy is automatically forced to dance and sing along, until he shakes the "black cloak of despair" from his shoulders. Some jazz musicians have claimed to have captured Joyboy's rhythms, but their attempts to reproduce its magical effects never came close.

Joyboy is not a very famous character, and what little is known about him comes from oral tradition and songs, particularly in Haiti. Authors Michael Page and Robert Ingpen in their book The Encyclopedia of Things That Never Were say that it is likely that Joyboy migrated from West Africa to the Caribbean via slaves.
