Description
Original line art drawn some time during the Autumn school holidays in April.
Scanned on Friday the 5th of May.
Edited and coloured on Saturday the 6th of May.
This character was an idea I had while me and my mum were driving back home from Whakatane. Originally in my head he looked a lot like Ray (for obvious reasons) (big surprise I'm sure). In fact, at the time I was having trouble figuring out what species to make him other than a squirrel or some other generic species which I liked. And then when getting to drawing him, I remembered I liked meerkats. The thing with the 'Church of Spagonia' shirt was originally more of a character thing with him being extremely wholesome and mainly seen wearing clothes with a Christianity related print or a wholesome quote. However, it eventually turned into this whole thing with his dad being a pastor which I still haven't properly created a story around. I also plan to include him in the whole story I have with my other OC, Smith the Tuatara (yes, I'm the type of person who just has character lore pop into his head when he's walking down the street).
The methods I used to fix up and colour the scanned line art for this one were a bit different than my previous pieces which I've posted. Firstly, rather than using the Colourise Mask Tool to fill in the colours, I just used a brush tool to fill it all in, which gives it a rougher, more childlike look, which was fitting for the character. Also, rather than using the shading technique which I used for 'Yosaia Looking Up' not too long ago for the main shading, I instead used a small transparent pencil like brush which gave me a simpler, more stylised look, and I used that technique for minor, only slightly visible shading details around his head and tail. Also, in the original line art his ears were more simple, just being rounded points with no actual holes in them. The actual part of his ears was added in Krita using a pencil brush similar to my line art. That also made it easier for me to make his ears look cute and squishy.
