January is the second installment of what will end up being a calendar of gals. I got such an overwhelmingly positive response to 'December' that I decided to make a calendar of portraits. Each month will somehow fit that month. So, much like December was a girl playing in the freshly fallen snow, January is all about curling up beside a warm fire. Because, by January, the novelty of the snow has worn off and all you want to do is be warm again.
Or maybe you’re like me, and you like the winter specifically because of how wonderful it feels to warm up by a fire. Or curl up in a nice, fuzzy blanket. With a cup of coffee or tea or hot chocolate by your side, of course. The blues and reds in this painting are all about this juxtaposition of cold and warmth.
Painted in Photoshop with a Wacom Cintiq tablet. There'll be a tutorial and time lapse of this available within the next few days.

Hah, you're right! I guess I was thinking of a picture book type of thing initially, or a book of fairy tales. Something for kids. Then I just put words on it, so it DOES seem a bit confusing and you definitely have a point.

That's such a nice picture! And the background with the fireplace and the hot tea/coffee/hot chocolate just makes me feel comfortable and cozy. Just perfect, especially because January is my month

Considering the first snow only came in January at my place, December would probably fit me at least the beginning of January more. But by now I certainly prefer staying in the warm again, haha.
She is very beautiful and the fireplace makes it look super comfy.
