i love conures so much! i really want a green-cheeked one, or a sun conure. i've never had a bird before, though. would you recommend it being a starting bird? (i can't get one right now because parents + a cat who is a killing machine) but i will one day!

God no. They are not a first-time bird by any means.
I ended up having to re-home mine for behavioral and noise issues that I couldn't deal with as a new bird owner. THey're a VERY DEMANDING bird species and to keep them happy, they need to be out of the cage most of the day which is tough. It's like babysitting a kid since they get into all kinds of trouble.
Once I get an apartment of my own, I'm going to get a dove or a pigeon since they're easier to take care of, calmer, and quieter. uwu

Man I'm getting mixed reviews. Some say they're great- they're a tad needy but they're good, then there's others saying no. Aaaa I don't know what to do. Conures are such cuties with quite a personality but I'm not great with noise? (wait holy shit- you're able to get a dove?) I was thinking of getting a budgie or something along the lines, but I fell hard for conures.

If you're not good with noise don't get a conure.
Do not under any circumstance.
Also when people say "a little needy" they mean needy 12+ hours a day. And when they scream, your ears ring. Sometimes they scream for hours on end. I'm a very patient person and honestly it drive me to the edge. And if you plan on going to college, fuckin nop. My college told me my bird wasn't allowed back under any circumstances because of the noise. It's legit like a fire engine. And when they bite you bleed.
And yes you can get doves! I'm super hyped about it c:
