My husband kindly took the kids for a day so I could do a piece to expand my portfolio. Actually, I have a ton of pegasi/winged-horse concept sketches scattered all over my workspace, but I don't think I have any on DA. Amended!

So, yeah. This is a winged horse stallion, the way they will appear in my fantasy world for my comic and such. Except maybe without the mud splatter. Man, he is not happy about that.

There are a ton of excellent equine stock photographers here on DA, and I spend a lot of time studying their photos. This piece in particular was mostly referenced from [link] and [link] .
The wings were referenced from swan and snow goose images I don't remember where I got and studies I did thereof.

I love the way you drew his head and neck - it's really elegant.

This is beautiful and humorous at the same time. Well done! I love his expression as he studies the mud on his legs: "Really? What the -? Come on! And I just groomed this morning!" The detail work and the equine anatomy are great; horses are such a pain to draw, but you've portrayed the musculature and the form very well. And I do like the swan-like wings with the shades of gray and black - they contrast nicely with the rest of the pegasus' coloring.

Thank you very much. When I was drawing him, the mud splatter was a sudden inspiration that simply could not go unused.

I'm an anatomy nut. I beefed up the chest (for flight muscles) and the neck (for smexiness). I should probably do a side-by-side of a pegasus and a normal horse sometime to show the difference.

Beautiful! The wings are so unique; I've never seen them drawn like that.

Do you mean the black wing tips or the swan-like pose?

Wonderful, the shading is so smooth, and everything is so clean, and the wings are amazing. I'd like to see a similar drawing where the horse is flying
