Description
Westerbork Monument (a part of).Each block represents a person deported from this camp to the concentration camps during WW II. For instance, Anne Frank was deported from here to Auswitz.

The blocks remind me of the luggage, the suitcases that were left behind by the many Jewish people. They took what they could with them, but in the end had to give it all up.
Like their old lives left behind...

It is indeed a place which you visit mostly in silence.
Yeah, Anne was transported and in the end died of typhus in Bergen-Belzen, somewhere in March 1945.

It's called Camp Westerbork and it's located in the vicinity of a village called Westerbork in Drenthe, a province of The Netherlands. But actually the camp is in the middle of some woods, away from any populated places. As you can imagine, the Germans tried to keep such activities hidding from the general public.

Yeah, it is. The blocks are actually red with a silver star on them but the B/W has a stonger effect, I think.
