Much like how the Virtual Console let's you download SNES, GBA, and other past titles on the Wii U, you can now download Wii games and you can even play them with the Gamepad and not have to go into the Wii mode. Β So far the only games you can get are:

I wonder if they'll release Skyward Sword as an up-scaled downloadable game for Zelda's 30th Anniversary. A 1080p render is basically all it needs (and maybe one or two tweaks).

I'll be trading in my copies of Super Mario Galaxy and Donkey Kong Country Returns in favor of the HD Virtual Console and 3DS equivalents, respectively. Took advantage of the Cyber Sale on eShop, and I'd like as much credit for future game purchases as possible.

HD? Wii U doesn't play original Wii games in HD. If you want to play your Wii games in HD, you'll have to use Dolphin.

With Xenoblade they should add a DS mode for those that wants to play Xenoblade Chronicles on the Gamepad.

I think this is so you don't have to go into the Wii menu to play the games. Β These version are played directly from the Wii U menu.

Xenoblade Chronicles is coming to the New 3DS, so that's probably why it's not a Wii download. Don't know what to tell you about Last Story though.
