very well done. i must say. Its all basics really, but for novices this should be perfect.

oh and btw: why donΒ΄t you use freehand? has the same functions, just works much faster. ( or is that like the whole pc-users vs mac-users thing? )

using the pen tool is a much faster and a more more precise way of drawing.then using the paintbrush or pencil tools.

LOL. Freehand is a PROGRAM by macromedia. Not a tool.

donniedubson In reply to donniedubson [2006-02-10 09:17:43 +0000 UTC]

well, actually, freehand is most commonly used in europe. Almost every design agency works with FH. But now that doesnt matter anyway, because adobe bought macromedia

what do i know? i just use illustrator. when you said "freehand" I thought you were refering to the brush and pencil tools in illustrator. just click and drag. I think that illustrator is probably the most commonly used vector software. the graphics class i'm in now teaches it and alot of the colleges I looked at including the one I've been accepted to teach it along with the rest of the creative suite. I only knew about macromedia's web design programs. I didn't relize that they made vector software

Well I guess I know which friendly neighborhood gallery administrator I should note have I any questions

And I do already actually. Is there a way to get your lines to have a more sharp end, I guess in photoshop you do simulate pressure or something, or would I need to do it all manually like usual.

Helped a lot too by the way. Thanks.

smashmethod In reply to turp [2006-02-07 01:59:21 +0000 UTC]

On the stroke of a line, turn the meter limit down to like 1 or 0, that usually creates really pointy corners. I'm not sure if that's what you mean, though.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

turp In reply to smashmethod [2006-02-07 02:23:35 +0000 UTC]

No, for the detail lines when its just a plain straight line, to make the folds of a jacket or something look more crisp. Or to make strands in the hair look like they flow and taper at the ends.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

smashmethod In reply to turp [2006-02-07 04:10:06 +0000 UTC]

Apply a simple caligraphy brush to the line, then edit the brsuhes parameters, and make the roundness 0% fixed. Then just play with the angle until you get the point where you want.

Damn i hate not being able to edit comments, but i thought i'd mention that this works in winamp too, you dont need Divx, though im guessing that has its advantages aswell.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

happienoodleboy In reply to Aeon-Lord [2006-02-06 23:27:00 +0000 UTC]

isn't that only if you have the divX codecs loaded?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Aeon-Lord In reply to happienoodleboy [2006-02-07 16:19:53 +0000 UTC]

It might be but i havent loaded any codecs into it so im not sure.

Aeon-Lord In reply to ??? [2006-02-06 20:48:56 +0000 UTC]

I found this rather helpful. I easily know my way around illustator, but this is helped alot to actully putting that knowledge into making pictures.

Seeing your technique was also very useful, the way you did tihngs are alot different to how i would of tried them. Its nice seeing other artists methods, kinda open doors to different ways of tackling the same obstacle.

Thanks.

Oh and nice voice

Haha yeah we should start a club
Im proud of my monotone voice, though not being able to change the pitch can be irriating.

Seeings as im here, i wanted to ask: How do you keep an image as a vector when you open it in photoshop? It always rasterizes it, which doesnt help.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

smashmethod In reply to Aeon-Lord [2006-02-07 21:15:38 +0000 UTC]

I'm not entirely sure, as I've never tried it (or seen a reason for it). Though perhaps copy/paste from illustrator, and paste as "Shape Objects" may work.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Aeon-Lord In reply to smashmethod [2006-02-07 21:24:53 +0000 UTC]

So when are you going to publish this DVD of yours and how could somebody get a hold of it?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

It's finished, and published. I think I'm going to give the DVD out for free to people who buy prints (and want it). Other than that, I think I'll be releasing the low-res versions of all the tutorials this way.
