Description Been developing a pipeline to get these things with a click of a few buttons. Spent like 8 hours working and researching to get it done with terragen2 and other apps.

Now I can render these out rather quickly tho the resolution requirement increases render time a lot..

Expect more of these in the future!

And yeah as Tadp0l3 said I think I need to point out that its a flash file and you can pan around xD

Please note that this is just a test and not an actual proper work

Yeah wow. I hope you don't pressure everyone else to make these things, otherwise the rest of us spaceartists will never be able to compete.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Smattila In reply to Sostopher [2010-11-03 03:00:44 +0000 UTC]

Haha no pressure. It's not very composition friendly format. Making an image with a plot and proper composition is extremely difficult with this large area of viewable content

Man...I'm so tempted to try and do something like this with one of my 3D landscapes...Space view is amazing, but I'd love to try one with a ground-level view, perhaps surrounded by alien plants and whatnot or maybe just do a space one myself but load it with all kinds of planets and comets etc (in other words - overdo it ) whatever I can't do in 3D I'll load into the scene as alpha-planes facing the camera in all directions

Would you say it was hard to assemble? I'm assuming the 3D part was pretty straightforward. As I can get 360 degree renders out of Vue too. I just mean the setting it up for this sort of thing in whatever program it was done in (hoping its free ) since anything too technical or computer-geeky just loses me

If you zoom in a fair amount there's no distortion, I noticed there was some severe "egging" of the planet when zoomed out. But closer in it's much better and more true to life anyway

I'd fave this if I could see the fave button though, I'll try again after posting this comment (I guess only you and me will know if it worked ) Since this truely surpised me, I almost didn't click since I thought it was just a modified version of your previous work, but I had a lot of fun with this and would really love to give making my own a try

Smattila In reply to Chromattix [2010-11-03 02:59:19 +0000 UTC]

It's easy if you can render a 360x180 degree image right away. Get a program called pano QTVR. It can render the image in quicktime VR format and Flash too. The free version only does quicktime vr tho, but it works just as well. Deviantart does not support it tho, vidoes seem to require 5sec of material which seems odd for a thing like this I made this scene by rendering 6 skyboxes with FOV 90 degrees and combined them in the software.

Chromattix In reply to Smattila [2010-11-03 11:34:27 +0000 UTC]

Cool, thanks for the info! well I went and downloaded the free version anyway, whipped up a half-assed scene in Vue and rendered a low-res panorama of it and loaded into that program, exported it and it worked Looks like shit compared to this though. But it might be something I will consider buying the proper version for...Not until I get the time and motivation to make a proper one and test out how it looks first (I need to know how shitty I'm gonna get with making it since my computer has too much limitations on rendering and such )

Hmm, I didn't need to render 6 images, unless yours was the "box" method as you said it was. Mine was a bit like how a 360 degree photo looks (normal around the "equator" and warped at the "poles" but looks fine once in the 3D view) so fortunately I needed only one image

Hmm, so I guess I pretty much got the point for now, I wonder though - do you know what resolution this would be as a single, still 360 degree image? My test was on one that was 2400x1200 and even that seemed pretty lossy

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Smattila In reply to Chromattix [2010-11-03 12:35:39 +0000 UTC]

Yeah the resolution requirement is quite high. My image had 6 boxes which were all 2048x2048. I think you can get a good quality image if u render 6000x something with your 360 degree camera.
