This is what AMC could do when they took off those black pencil ties!! AH! A beauty. I worked for AMC in the DC area, and one of these came to the warehouse. The orginal concept was that each ZONE office would have one on display. I've seen three 2 red and this one. One came to the dealership (AMC) Walker Bros. in Sept '74 for service. That's in LA.

was intended to be the next step of AMX, and it would have been awesome but decided against due to a price tag they thought was going to be too high.

Lovely!

...but it just screams "Pantera!", doesn't it? I wonder who got there first, Teague or Tojiero? Personally, I think it was Teague...

apparently a year before the pantera..although the project was dropped because of the pantera as it could be sold for less than this. shame really im sure smart people would pay just a bit more for a decently made car instead of the pantera

Yes, but smart people would have been buying Toyotas or Hondas, or Mercedes-Benzes if they were rich smart people. The kind of people who buy Panteras would think "Ghia!" and "Handmade Italian sports car!" and "I think I can afford that if I sell only *half* my family!"

Besides, apart from anyone who traded a Ford or Chrysler car in for one, who says AMCs were decently made?

I say they were, I have owned dozens and the build quality is quite high, but they don't stand up to neglect well... (keep in mind all of mine were vintage, I cannot vouch for the 80's crap)
