(Wallopod is based on the fighting machines, or 'tripods', and the Martians from The War of the Worlds. The Fighting type comes from the fact it's a Martian; Mars is the Roman god of war.

The Wellsian Martians from War of the Worlds are cephalopods; it'd be more logical for it to be water type than bug type.
