Description
------
2 young Belic pilots race through the strange gravity fields of 'The Rings'.

'The Rings', one of the many space anomalies in the binary star system. Its a giant structure left from an ancient civilisation. 'The Rings consists off 7 giant rings (3 large, 4 smaller) slowly rotating (on all axis) around a small star like ball of gas. While noone knows its origonal purpose it's strange local gravity is now used by the Belics as a 'manhood' test for their young men. They have to navigate through its shifting gravity and back.
------

------
Edit:
Added a texture to the rings and played with the lense flares, hopefully thats them alot better now. Also changed the colours. Big thanks to *ChrisCold and the [link] people.

great picture but not so sure about the Belics. Keep that part of your imagination away from your art. The idea of a civilisation is fantastic though because that just leaves the person who looks at the picture wonder what the civilisation was like. You have just ruined it a bit by talking about your made up Belics and trials wtf man? Wouldn't the spaceships have the capability to deal with different gravities automatically anyway.

I dunno, personally I like it when someone has a little story to go along with their piece. I think it makes it more than something thats just been randomly put together to "look cool".

Fair enough, but that manhood testing is a load of shit for a story

Smiling-Demon In reply to DRexySeamfire [2011-01-28 18:51:02 +0000 UTC]

Its something that happens in alot of cultures throughout history and the modern world. Why shouldn't it be otherwise.

And in the future I would recommend not saying anything if you don't have anything helpfull to say.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DRexySeamfire In reply to Smiling-Demon [2011-01-28 19:43:16 +0000 UTC]

What ever I say is helpful, I'm telling you how your description would get you more favs, maybe watches if you didn't include bullshit like that. Where do you fucking SEE trials in the modern world? I don't see people proving that they are off full age, you have something called age where you know when you are a man. History yes where people didn't count their years and had to do some shit to prove that they were of age. You've been watching too many adventure films about trials of manhood. So take this advise and don't complain as I'm giving it you for free.

Smiling-Demon In reply to DRexySeamfire [2011-01-28 20:15:38 +0000 UTC]

And this is where your completely wrong. For a start plenty of African tribes still do, and yes they still are tribes, same goes for alot of South America, Asia and the pacific. There are also plenty of Rites of Passage for lots of organisations, even if they aren't so obviously so.

Also in respect to "whatever I say is helpful". Its all about wording, being patronising, aggressive and insulting isn't going to get you anywhere, take it as advice from someone with a little more life experience.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DRexySeamfire In reply to Smiling-Demon [2011-01-28 20:36:44 +0000 UTC]

You're right about tribes, but I think trials wear off as people develop, clearly these tribes are living in a past world, where all you have to do is kill some sort of animal like a tiger or something to prove a point to the whole tribe. But in bigger populations (space populations will be much bigger than in cities) people don't give a shit, you don't have to prove anything, you can just go out and find people that are like you and think like you do. The tribes are isolated so they don't know that their trials are just something that is completely worthless to the whole world.

Ok, I've thought about what you have said and will change my wording. You could change the trials of manliness to something more in the futuristic concept. You could change the test to something like the pilots wanted to update their profiles. So if somebody was interested in them they could look at their log of things they have done and where they have been, what they are good at or bad at so just check out their skill rating. It's like a futuristic social network that integrated your experience and skills at various things. So there is no reward, its just who dares and succeeds gets a better profile rating. What do you think of that?

Smiling-Demon In reply to DRexySeamfire [2011-01-29 04:38:22 +0000 UTC]

Now that's much better

And I do like your idea, maybe something I will explore in the future. But I also like mine, and it was the concept I had in mind when I started it. Personally I feel with the distances involved and the speed of travel possible, that it would be quite easy for communities to become isolated, and what if it was a relatively new colony which became isolated, it might not be that big? Also who is to say that these Belics (as I have named them) are Human... they could quite easily be some different species with a different outlook on life. There is plenty of sci-fi writers who have used this concept in their books before. I think we are going to have to agree to disagree on this one.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DRexySeamfire In reply to Smiling-Demon [2011-01-29 17:34:31 +0000 UTC]

Ah that would make more sense. I thought the Belics were human and that was the name of their star system or something. The species could have nothing to do with Earth. The distances I agree with you 100% and the isolation.
