Description
As promised, here’s USS Texas, the accomplished battleship-turned-museum I’ve been working on for the past week and a half or so! I actually happened to be in Texas (the state, not the ship) for a few days, and my plan had been to draw her during that time, but I didn’t finish the drawing until now. In any case, here she is!

Some design notes:
-I dressed her up like a cowgirl, as that style is very strongly associated with her namesake state despite actually being more widespread. Maybe it’s a bit cliche, but it was fun to research and draw nometheless!
-The Texas flag pattern on her hat is based on an actual picture I found while looking up outfit references for her! I saw it and went “oh that is perfect” and gave her more or less the same design as the one in the picture.
-Those scars on her face are a reference to some of the damage she sustained during the bombardment of Cherbourg, in which her conning tower was severely damaged by a German shell.
-Her facial structure is inspired by the wavy shape of her bow (as is discussed in this video ). This is most evident in her cheekbones but is also visible in her chin and brows. The waves in her hair are also a subtle reference to that shape!
-Like the Pennsylvania-class sisters, Texas has blue hair, inspired by her current blue-gray hull color.
-I originally planned to give her two revolvers instead of just one, but ultimately I decided she only needed the one. I made that one gun really big instead.
-The design on her boots is meant to resemble a bow-on view of her ship form!
-The title for this one comes from Bones in the Ocean by The Longest Johns!
