Description
The next ship has arrived: SS Paris, one of many highly-flammable French Line ships! Normandie is usually the one associated with fire, but perhaps Paris deserves that same association seeing as she actually burned twice; the second (and final) time, she was visible in the background of a picture of Normandie , who, in a cruel twist of fate, would meet the same fiery end a few years later.Notes:
-It was surprisingly hard to find any colorized photos of Paris’ interiors! I only found one, which depicted her grand staircase (pre-Art Deco redesign) in shades of gold and some dark red. Since that was the only indication I could find of her interior colors, I went with that for her outfit.
-Her dress features patterns from the walls and dome of her grand staircase; the heels of her shoes are also based on the archways around the staircase, and her earrings are based on the dome. Fun fact: design in that area prior to her 1929 redesign reminds me a lot of Middle Eastern architecture, which is where I got the idea for her to be interested in āina-kāri.
-She has sparkly eyeshadow and glitter on her cheeks! I used a special glitter brush for those, as well as for her shoes and choker.
-Her hairstyle is inspired by Josephine Baker ; the bangs specifically are meant to resemble flames.
-She has burn scars along the length of her left arm. She also has some on her right leg, but they’re covered up by her pantyhose and skirt. These represent both the fire that destroyed her and the earlier one that damaged her and led to an interior design overhaul.
-The title for this one comes from Girl on Fire by Alicia Keys; specifically, it’s the Inferno Version featuring Nicki Minaj!
Paris was a beautiful ship, but she’s all too often overlooked in favor of her more famous fleetmates. It’s hard to compete with Normandie and Ile de France, I suppose.
