They're so shiny, and indeed slimy-looking! All the colors are beautiful and...well EARTHY! Are they edible, or would they be harmful?

As I say: All mushrooms are edible... but some only once.
These are indeed edible, but can be confused with similar poisonous species.

How do you know if they're edible? Did you try eating them?

what a touching shot of mushrooms lol... it looks as if the 2 standing mushrooms are mourning the loss of their *friend* and that the bigger of the 2 is shielding the smaller. cute.

I don't think they would taste very nice although they're not toxic.

You're right about that. I don't think it's a species growing in the US. Maybe you can verify that?

It took me all this time to bring my field guide to work! It mentions a handful of Hygrocybes, but not this particular one. There also are no pictures.

The one on the moss was lying a little further (some one probably kicked it down). I placed it that way the gills are visible.

i want to see them up close & extremely personal In that case you'll have to come to Europe in the month of November and with lots of luck (and some help of an experienced nature guide) you can find them. Maybe you should be satisfied with a look at this picture.

Wilgotnica seems to be the name for all waxcaps. This species has apparently no Polish name too.
