Description
Koda loved learning new things, while he was no scholar, he enjoyed reading and learning new facts or skills. Lately He’s taken a certain liking to learning magic, while not a master, he was proficient in quite a bit of the elements he’s tackled thus far. Even with skills he couldn’t get a hold of immediately he loved, the challenge and success brought an indescribable thrill and satisfaction to him. So when he ran into issues learning the next skill in lightning, he thought little concern and simply prepared for the challenge.
Normally with hard skills, he’d be able to narrow down what he could possibly be doing wrong within the first few tries and have at least one successful attempt. However, balling lighting seemed near impossible. No matter how much he concentrated he couldn’t seem to keep the ball together long enough to throw it, and the increasing lingering sting each failed discharge caused made the blue gro seem more irritable.
He had been there since early morning expecting to be done quickly, yet here he was, an hour past noon with no more success past a small ball that fit in his fingertips, and even then, it lasted all for 2 feet before dissipating. Koda eyed the target he put on the tree with narrowed brows before he planted his feet firmly on the ground before gathering up a ball once more, sweat dripped down his forehead as he concentrated, he held it for a second, two, and on the third he threw it towards the tree, he watched it go five feet away from him before the ball became unstable and once again blew away into thin air, once more leaving sharp stings along Koda’s skin.
Koda could barely feel his eye twitch, nor could he feel the remnants of the failed attempt. He could only feel the cold burning feeling of rage in his chest. His fingers twitching before he let out a light snarl and, before even thinking, started to gather one more ball, if he couldn’t do it with this last attempt he would give up for the rest of the day. His snarl turned into a growl as he lost himself and focused on keeping the ball together. Missing or ignoring the fact that it had swelled up to the size of a soft ball. He could feel the lightning gather and surround his hands and with a sharp yell threw it.
Koda puffed and panted, and prepared himself for what he thought would be yet another failed attempt. He expected the familiar feeling of electricity coursing over his skin, leaving a sort of numbness in their trail, and yet there was nothing. He felt a little bit of hope swell in his chest and looked over to his target, only to frown at the lack of any visible indication that he had hit it.
So, if it didn’t dissipate and it didn’t hit the target then where did it-
Koda’s attention snapped up and he saw the ball flinging around wildly, growing a little smaller every passing second. It seemed to almost ricochet off a tree and towards a gro standing near another tree.
Wait no, not just any other gro, it was Del, and the ball was heading straight towards her.
Koda picked up his feet and reached out towards his daughter.
“Del! Mo-” He was too late. His shout wasn’t quick enough, She didn’t notice fast enough. HE wasn’t fast enough.
A sharp, almost buzzing, explosion filled his ears and with it, a scream that died quick. Dust filled the area and subsequently Koda’s throat. He let out a cough and used his wings to clear the area.
“Del? Are you okay?” He asked, heart pounding against his chest in an uneven rhythm. He gained no response from the young wyngro, causing the thumping in his heart to seem louder. “Del?” his voice grew weak as he tried to steady himself while approaching where his daughter was.
“D-dad?” her voice was soft, and shaky, nothing like the energetic wyngling that was there mere minutes ago. Koda rushed over, quickly kneeling over his daughter and gently cradling her.
“I-I’m here, a-are y-you ok-kay?” Koda mentally cursed at the shakiness in his voice as he observed Del. a large scorch mark was left just behind her right shoulder, the fur singed and charred. The wyngling herself seemed to have trouble staying awake and her eyelids fluttered down. “Hey, h-hey, stay with m-me.” Koda pleaded to no avail.
Del let out one more, breathy “dad” before succumbing to unconsciousness.
Koda felt hot tears gather in the corner of his eyes before he held Del as close as he could to his chest and spread his wings, taking off and heading to Dr.F, praying that chii will have mercy on his child.
