Description
Mirage wasn't going to lie, Adult life was more boring than what she had expected. Years had passed and slowly, but surely all lessons she used to take had ran its course; she filled in her free time by making sure her piano skills remained sharp or brushing up on books on different fighting forms. Of course, doing the forms by herself with no proper trainer nor sparring partner only got her so far. Overall life hadn't been so bad, she slowly moved on from her mother's death along with her father who had gradually stopped taking frequent long business trips out of Wynsiph and opted to spend a bit more time with his daughter. That's not to say he's home constantly now, money had to come from somewhere after all, rather he was home more, and in the occasion he did need to be out, the trips never lasted more than a week.Unfortunately for the young yellow lass, her father had left for said business trip just the day before, leaving her alone with nothing but her thoughts and the few staff who had stayed in her residence. Mirage turned for the third time to stare up at the ceiling, wracking her brain for ideas on how to fill her afternoon only to come up with blanks. She let out a frustrated groan before a pinned note on her cork board caught her attention. It had been a job listing for assisting in the Jurant's Carpentry shop she had grabbed from her last trip in town. She had taken it with every intention to potentially take the job, alas upon closer inspection, Mirage had noticed a tiny detail she had missed: the job required her to know Earth Magic, something she doesn't, nor plan to know. Though the piece of paper had brought up an interesting dinner topic with her father.
They had come to an agreement that while, yes their family was well off, having a job to earn her own money would be good, especially in a growing town like Wynsiph. It also brought up the idea of learning magic , but Mirage had quickly disregarded the need of, stating she'd rather not have to rely on magic for daily living. Her Father had wanted to disagree but decided to let the topic go for another day.
She tore the paper off the board and stared at it for a long time. Just because one job was a bust, doesn't mean there aren't more. Surely there's one out there I can do. The young gro thought to herself, and with that, she had taken the flier and shoved it into her pocket before deciding to go into town for the day.
Words could not describe how she felt upon stepping into town and getting met with what could be hundreds of posters, nailed or other wise stuck on every available surface, before she had even reached the community board. Curious as she was, she had grabbed one and read through it.
New community huh. Any and all are welcome, help build a community where everyone can survive. That made her pause, partly sick at the reminder of one gro the town had lost after last notch's integration of wynsiph. She hadn't been close to them of course, but that was no way to go. "because everyone deserves a bed and a meal." she read out loud, letting the words sink in as she contemplated whether she'd try it or not.
She looked at the simple map drawn on the bottom of the poster and below it listing names of the ones to look for for more information. Flier in hand, she went off to find Koevit, Trying, and failing to step on other posters that had fallen to the ground. There was only so much road. A few questions and a short walk through town later, she spotted the brown gro coming out of the carpentry shop.
"Excuse me, are you Koevit?" She asked whilst walking towards him causing him to turn around.
"That would be me, yes- oh" he pointed at the poster in her hand with a smile, "Oh, good morning! I see you found one of the... many posters Slurm has been hanging up." That earned him a chuckle. which he happily returned.
"Yes, well, I was just hoping if you could tell me more about it"
"More than happy to."
"So, what spurred this idea on?"
At this, the old man's face quickly shifted to a look of pure anger from his smiling disposition, it slightly scared Mirage, "I don't know how you feel about Last Notch sticking their nose into Wynsiph's business, but I certainty don't appreciate the humanity being drained from this town." he paused and just like that the anger was gone once more, "Ha, sorry, didn't mean to get carried away."
"It's no problem Sir." she said with a small smile. "Please, continue"
"Anyways, Long story short, I want to make a better community for everyone, where everyone supports their fellow wyngro, regardless of what they may get in return. I believe everyone is entitled and deserving to food, shelter, and love, unconditionally, no questions asked, and unfortunately Wynsiph has failed to give this to us."
At this Mirage had merely nodded. While she wasn't fully caught up to every thing happening in town she heard more than enough through town gossip.
"We got a lot of work that needs doing and I'd love for you to join us, or just lend a hand! Anything is appreciated! I have some coin coming in eventually once I've settled the sale on my house... I believe honest work deserves honest pay if you don't plan on living with us. So think about it, okay?"
"Oh, I couldn't possibly accept payment for something like this; though, I'd be more than happy to help fund a project such as this, I can't imagine materials will be cheap for houses and such."
"That would be fantastic too, Still please think about joining us there."
"I would, but my home is here. I can't just leave while my father is away."
"Of course, well, chances are this project will last a while, you're more than welcome to join us later should you choose to." Koevit shifted the folder of paperwork in his arms just a little. "We'll have some wagons travelling out to Staves Rest in a few days if you change your mind." with a smile, he turned getting ready to leave.
"Wait, one question." Mirage called causing koevit to turn towards her once more. "How long would the ride be going there?"
"About eight, hours, granted if we didn't take breaks."
"So, how long would it be by Ori?"
"Maybe three, four hours. that depends on how many breaks you take too."
Well its shorter than a whole day in a wagon, plus with an Ori I'd be able to go back and forth as much as I want. "In that case, I'd be happy to ride over and help out when I can." she said with a smile.
"Perfect. we'll see you there then."
"And I, you. Have a good day Koevit."
"You too, uh."
"Oh, Sorry I never introduced myself. Mirage Oriah sir." she gave a light bow and a light smile.
Koevit chuckled, "You have a good day now Mirage."
"Will do." She replied and watched the brown gro walk away. Now to solve one little problem. "Where am I gonna get an Ori?" she wondered out loud before walking back to town square in hopes her answer laid there. Plus she never picked out any other jobs.
