STEP WHATEVER: Be on MANY different sites with THE SAME username.I am not popular. Follow at your own risks. lol
Meant to make this a couple weeks back but too lazy to color. Still am. Hahah
Several of you guys have asked how I gained watchers. I did those things. Minus the fan-arts. I really don't like anything enough at this moment to fan-snail over. It gets people to notice you first then check out the rest of your original gallery.
My thoughts in the beginning were, if it takes a million artworks to reach a million watchers, then that's precisely what I am going to do. (My hand might fall off but that's what feet are for). I'm insecure. I want my watchers to stay because they like my original comics. Not because of the fan-arts.
But that's just me.I like treating each new watchers I get as if they were the first one. The only one who gave me a chance. The interaction keeps them coming back to your site.
Locking them in your basement out of desperation for validation from thousand strangers work too.Β
Lastly, well, this may only work for me, hahah I have extremely bad luck and a good sense of humor. Along came the tablet pen. Some talents. Voila. Comic strips happen.Β
My misery becomes your company.
In the end though, it's simply the joy of drawing what I love. By pure chance, Fate guides the other lost souls my way.

There is absolutely no reason for you to be insecure or worried about people not liking your work because it is AWESOME!!!!! Also I think it's great that you talk with your watchers coz not many people do that anymore.Β

Well, reflecting myself, I feel the urge to utter some statement:
Anyway, one has to choose whether to be popular, or unique. But what exactly is being popular, what is being unique? Popular = being mainstream, following others, collecting views by fanart, afraid of being alone (or rather, lonely); unique = (finding and) expressing your own thoughts and style, but remaining unseen? Quantity vs. quality?
However, either isn't good or bad. IMO one just should be clear about what's one's purpose or aim to be a member of the dA community. And that there is no golden way to instantly become unique and popular, say "successful". Rather following your own vision, it's still per aspera ad astra, i. e. much practising β and about being patient! Then organizing in groups and self-marketing could be of help. No trivial task at all, but there're tutorials for it (like this one in a way).
For my own part, (yet) I don't mind being popular. To me, it's the same with "love": I don't care about being loved, it's far more important to be able of loving others. β Actually regarding "arts", I still feel myself at the beginning of many ways. So when I want to submit something worth showing, I'll do it, may it be trivial or not. If someone likes and/or faves a work, I'm happy. If I submitted something to many groups, but still can't increase the faves significantly, at a certain point it's the same to me. Life goes on, everything is the beginning of something new.
Finally, here's another trick getting higher views, and increasing watchers at the same time: Exchange llamas! Giving a llama also makes (polite) fellow deviants visit your profile, and return a llama. I found some people to see this as a chance for self-advertising by watching you rather than your gallery itself is of interest, or in a comment explicitly ask to visit yours (that's OK as long as they don't $pam). Personally though, I prefer to not automatically watch people back, only if their works/profiles are appealing. β That's also a long term measurement and little time investment, as one still gets llamas back even after half a year or later.

How to be popular on any art site; deviantart, furaffinity, etc. In reality and not through sheer luck.
1. Create account.
2. Draw porn.
Β Β a. If site = Deviantart then take pictures and draw nude men and women. But label them 'artistic nudes' otherwise the moderators will delete them, after they save a copy for themselves.
Β Β b. If site = Furaffinity check for current popular series, at the time of writing that is MLP and Guardians of the Galaxy. Draw porn for said fandoms and make sure it is in the style of the show's and or comics.
3. Enjoy you thousands of views a month and hopefully they notice your non porn art, eventually.
