Description NO LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING!!

She looks like she is saying NO LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING!! Get the camera out of here.

This is the lovely lady Lothalina she is the famous Goliath Bird Eater, spec Theraphosa blondi

In this picture I am attempting to coax her out of here heavily planted layer. With a bread crumb trail of crickets.. And that is what crickets are to her… bread crumbs. With much success I got lots of cool photos of her but this one was my fav , She knows we toss the bugs in so she will posture for a cricket. … Well what can I say she is like a cat, jumps like a cat, is a big as a cat “not really but she is big” she eats mice and sleeps all day. So there ya have it she is a kitty cat…giggle snort… she would be more like the lion of the spider world.
However
She really is the beauty of the beast.
In this picture you can notice her cool velvet look to her. Ohh how pretty and her 8 eyes are… lol she kind of looks like a pissed off mushroom..

Some people dream of owning ponies wanted a goliath bird eating tarantula, thanks for letting me take pictures of your lovely lady. She is growing up to be such a pretty one.

Enjoy

Hey Buddy....
Have you ever pitted any of these creatures one against another in a fight????
Probably cruel, I guess, but could be very interesting!!!!

Could a Tarantula beat up on a Scorpion or vice-versa????? Who would win or does it depend on the size and the Species???

Could a Predatory Ground Beetle kick the ass of Scorpions or Spiders???

What about Wasps and Hornets??? I hate those vicious little monsters!!!! Do you like them???

In 5th grade some jerky kids were throwing rocks at a Hornets nest and one landed on my neck and stung the hell out of me!!!
Another time I stepped on a Yellowjacket nest with my bare feet and they stung me many times...I hate those little bastards too!!!!
I do think that Bees are OK...They seem to mind their own business!!!

heheh no i have never pitted any of these guy agiasnt each other ... that would be alittle to crule.. and they are fairly peacful to one anouther and keep there distance in nature so... yah know would make a pretty borring battle ... how ever
if i had to say ....man... if they were the same size ... the poor scopions don't have a chance from the biteing presure of a T. Scorps are and old ancent design and well ass bad ass as they are .. i would have to say a T has them beat... a ground beatle lol is a chiken bug lol it will bite only if you put your hand on it. They eat pill bugs which is why they have that wicked mouth. But they are not fighters...

Wasps and Hornets omg i have such a respect for these guys you would not belive.. I have a nest of yellow jackets that live outside my back door I love to watch these ladies build there nest amazing team work. We have and understanding I won't mess with them as long as they don't sting me.. They have gotten used to my persence and act as if I am not even there. I can honestly say there are not any animals i really hate... I am an odd one.
lol however if you get stung you are allways weary of them.

wow! a goliath spider, and a blonde one at that!
what a gorgeous specimen!!! how big is she?

must be pretty damn big if she eats mice.....

do they have a growth inhibitor or do they just keep on growing as long as you feed them?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Snakefox In reply to CorazondeDios [2008-05-11 16:51:45 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much
the Goliath Bird Eater, spec Theraphosa blondi sould be blonde hint the spec name blondi there are about 20 typs of bird eatter but this is the biggest one.
Yah she is pretty damn big about 10 inch leg span she is not done growing yet belive it or not she is still a baby...
the growth inhibitor on the golith seems to be feeding and oxegen... they require a heavly planted tank to do well "which makes them kind of hard to keep" they also require a large prey size "which most people don't like to offer them"
however miss lothalina has a tank full of ivys and bromillads and get her mouse one a week so yah she is growing liek a horse.
but there size caps out at about 12 inch leg span ... so it is not like they get to big but she is still huge
thanks so much if you have any more question plz let me know

CorazondeDios In reply to Snakefox [2008-05-11 17:25:27 +0000 UTC]

Wow, that is a truly huge spider. I already knew a lot about goliath spiders because I was simply awestruck that they grew so damn big. I believe they are from South America -- Brazil to be exact. They actually DO eat birds and other small mammals. Their bite is painful but not life threatening. They are agressive beasties and not too afraid of much. They are flippin HUGE -- damn! !2 inch leg span!!!

Forget the RAID -- get out a damn shotgun!

Seriously, that is an amazing pet that you have. Just post more photographs of her. One of her capturing a mouse would be awesome -- but I don't want you to get bit photographing it. They can jump like 20 feet -- which means they can jump on YOU!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Snakefox In reply to CorazondeDios [2008-05-13 15:03:11 +0000 UTC]

hheheh yes they can eat very small birds "mice are her favorite" and truely they are not agressive they are defensive meaning they will attack if they feel like they are gunna be eattin and they can't run away. LOL i hear all the storyies on docmentaries how they attack people but in there eyes attacking a person is liek attacking a sky straper so it is mostly people messing with them. Spiders in general are not aggresive
THey are huge that is for sure which makes her amazing. And yes omg yes she can jump... but it is more like a cat. Honestly like all T's she hates to move unless there is a mouse waiting for her. They are ambush preditors. But it is so cool to watch her... I have some pics of her eatting but they are not very "artsy" so I will post some in my sracp book for ya i think the sight of her eatting a mouse would scare the willies out of most people. LOL but like you the odd stuff facinates me lol i won't get bit as long as i keep putting stuff in her mouth we have that kinda relationship lol she is a begger mostly.
one cool odd fact about t's that is to cool lothalina makes and "owl pellet" out of they parts of the mouse she dosen't want to eat. It is a perfect ball of hair and bone fragments... lol i thought that was kinda cool they never have that on documentaryies.
But it dose look like you have taken the time to study them which is awesome in my book
let me know if I can do anything else for you

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CorazondeDios In reply to Snakefox [2008-05-13 16:56:01 +0000 UTC]

thanks so much for all this new information about Goliath spiders. I thought sure that they were agressive -- but yeah, I can see that from their perspective, they are just defending themselves.

Perhaps what people mean by agressive is that they don't run away and hide if they feel threatened.

I never knew that goliath spiders made owl balls out of the bits of the mouse they did not eat.

Definitely post pictures of her getting a mouse. That would be awesome.

I know that people can hold their pet tarantulas. I was wondering if it was safe for you to handle this monster. I would not do it for love or money. I wont touch any spider -- much less a tarantula or a goliath spider.

My daughter hates spiders, but she has held a tarantula. She says it doesn't count as a spider because it is so big.....

ummm.... I don't get that logic.

What a beauty...would she bite us if she could???
Like if she got out and you brushed against her would that be enough to anger her???
Don't you have to be extra careful???
Can you get a shot of her next to a common object like a matchbook or something so we have something to compare??

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Snakefox In reply to AckBo [2008-05-03 00:08:39 +0000 UTC]

AHHH Questions my favorite thing

would she bite I am gunna answer this the best way I can "YES" she can bite... but everythign that has a mouth can bite. She would rather run than bite trust me. Anger her... well she would be "like all spiders" fearful and try to get away she not liek a wolvearine, wolf or badger that would chase you down. However if you were to try to take her food from her mouth THEN she would be angery but i think we all would be in that sinario... but brushing up agisnt her naw she .. not unless she thought you were trying to eat her and grabed her..
CAreful Yes oh yes I am so careful with her ... you have to be.. she can jump like a cat.... and i mean LIKE A CAT ... HIGH AND FAR... She is still growning so she can be a bit testy all baby T are to and extent. But if you are careful there is no danger.

yah I will next time I am at my sisters place i will toss a quater in her cage and take a pic she is pretty big

Thank you for sharing your knowledge...you are quite fascinating!!!!
If I had a pet T I would be afraid that she would escape and get into my bed or my shoe and bite me by mistake....but I now have a new respect for Spiders in general and look upon them more kindly...years ago I would kill them when I found them...the past couple of years I've been leaving them be or removing them to the cellar or outside!!!

They are very Beautiful...

Are they really as dangerous as said????
Would YOU handle one???
Are they aggressive???
(I heard that a large percentage of bites are on Men's Scrotum's because of sitting on an Outhouse toilet...any truth to this????)
Why are they so feared (and dangerous?)
Why did the Creator make some Spiders deadly and others not...why aren't they all the same...

I love to ask you questions...Here's one more...
Is it true that Daddy-Long-Legs have a very toxic venom that could kill us but don't because their fangs aren't big enough to penetrate our skin??? Are they even Arachnids???
(As a teen me and a buddy camped out one night and did A LOT OF ACID, and I mean LOTS!!! Never been so high before or since...we happened to camp on ground in a field that was INFESTED with these little critters and all night long they were crawling on us...I FLIPPED OUT!!!)

Hope to hear from you soon....
Your Buddy, Paul

P.S. How're you doing with the Old Demon Alcohol???

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Snakefox In reply to AckBo [2008-05-05 21:11:54 +0000 UTC]

lol ohh the lovely black widow
and questions my fav
the black widow is a truely missunderstood beasty, she is feared more than anyother creature in the human world. Black widows in real life are very clumsy web, none agresive web spinners. THey love the dry dark places where they can we away from everything and raise there young. They are wonderful mothers. And the thing about them allways eatting the male is false to a degree also. THey will only eat males the presist to mate with her after she has mated. THey have POOr eye sight and realie on there web spinning ablityies.
Have I handled one Yes they are very comon where in texas and they will race across your foot from time to time. I have photos of one that I was given to me "she is beyond amazing" she laid 3 egg sacks . I rasied them and release her and her younge once the weather got better over 700 black widows. I might post the pics of this lovely but i fear the omg you are crasy questions. but as I have siad I am not afraid of anything.
on the mans scrotum thing lol sounds funny but i highly doubt it, bath rooms are normaly moist and well lite not ideal for a widow. rember dark and dry thats what they like
THere bite is well not as bad as people think really the only people that die are really young, alligric, or really old. For most people The simptoms after a bite includ 2 days of minor stomach cramps and a sore swelling where bite happend that gose away after a week. Most people don't need to be treated for it... lol it is HIGHLY OVER RATED .. but you sould allways be careful
Ah the daddy long legs ys there venom is VERY toxic no they can't bite "or would bite" people. Nope they are not archnids they have a wounderful group all there own.
lol yah they are scary looking but i have allways found there presnce comforting they are after the bugs that want to bite you. THey will swam to spawn which is crasy kinda cool i allways luaght when i see them crawl up peolpe and they never notice. Truely wonderful

ah me and old demon the alcohol geez heheheh we are good buddies but i have been trying to keep out of its way. LoL still fighting that one.

I just saw the movie "8 Legged Freaks"...did you see it??? Lots of Jumping Spiders and Orb Web spiders and a Tarantula here and there...
Pretty good graphics and a decent story and actors...in the end...well, I won't tell you in case you haven't seen it!!!!
Why are most of us so afraid of them?????

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Snakefox In reply to AckBo [2008-05-05 20:50:53 +0000 UTC]

heheh haven't seen this movie yet but i here it is a real hoot "honestly i don't get much time for tv" busy busy lol
but you ask why are people afraid of spiders... good question .. it is the number 1 fear in the world...
i am not a psyc major but some say it is ingrained in our dna to hate crepy crawlies... "which makes me wonder about my self since i don't seem to have this problem" but i find it hard to belive that humans naturaly hate spiders."unless... i am not human"
however I think the better theroy of archnopobia is that we are tought at and early age that eveything that crawls bites and every snake is venomus yatta yatta and we sould be afarid. And not only afiad but we sould kill it before it kills us.
I however have learned that unless you learn about soemthing then you sould respect it. I find the more i learn the more intrested I become, and the more intrested the more I "love" these odd creatures. I have found that most of what everyone has thought me has been wroung and you have to open your eyes when it come to things that are differnt from us. To me the less like me it seems the more like me it becomes once you gather your info. It amazes me how human some creatures such acutaly are. Most creepy crawlies are alot like us they just wanna eat sleep and breed. I don't see anything wroung in that But yah I love the odd and the wierd thats for sure hope that helps
thanks agian
