Description
An elven princess relaxes with her companions at one of her favourite spots; a pond in some abandoned ruins near the palace.OK, I admit it; my imagination for titles failed me on this one.
This one went straight from rendering to posting, since I seem to have burned through my 3-month buffer of completed renders.
My “Adventures with Lighting” continue. I haven’t yet found a lighting setup that is perfect. All of the options I have tried so far seem to have some issues.
I am not a fan of the three-light setup that seems to be the recommended ‘best practice’. I often get secondary shadows from the fill light, which I hate, as well as weirdly truncated shadows.
HDRIs are great for skies, and can be rotated, but are limited in the vertical range if you want a higher or lower light source. Rotating them also rotates the sky in the background, which usually doesn’t matter, but sometimes it does. I also don’t like the sharp shadows produced by HDRIs, and distant lights have the same problem.
For this scene, I tried something new. I hung a simple point light up in the sky, made it a sphere a few meters across, and cranked the intensity up to about a millionty gazillion. I really like the result. Total control over the location of the light source, as well as more diffuse shadow edges. Then I used dim camera headlamps to 'soften' the shadows.
I suspect I will try this option in a lot of future outdoor scenes.
Daz3D Iray. Post to clean up speckling.

Snapshotz3D have you tried Sun-Sky only (under Render Settings) and no other lights in the scene? If you need extra lights Dome and Scene works (but set the HDRI to none to get the sun-sky settings back and have your scene lights still work). Try just lighting this with the natural sun, adjust time of day settings and Dome Rotation as needed. Select Draw Dome if you want the sky rendered in, or use a BG image if that works for you.
For spots and point lights, use Luminous Flux (Lumen) to control light intensity and mostly leave the other intensity percentage alone. The default 5K is very dim, try raising it to 10K-50K to get some light and iRay preview mode helps proof your lights even if it takes a while, and remember the light intensity will drop with distance dramatically.
I rarely use HDRIs or directional lights in my scenes, but I will use off-camera square spotlights like a photographer would a reflector or fill-light to add some light in a spot that needs it. I mostly work with the natural light with Sun-Sky, spots to fill, and use emissive surfaces indoors these days.
Fun scene by the way and nice work!

Not really sure what you are suggesting. I usually do an SFW version of a scene. The nude version of the full scene was posted as well.
And what about the other girls? I will post individual renders of them as well.

Oh !
I see !
Well what I mean !
Is that !
You did.nt post the " Bikini version " before the nude version ! "
Well I was a bit confused when you posted the nude version ?
So what I mean is that !
If you are doing a " Sceen-Render " ?
And if you are using and posing a model ?
Wel! If the model is in a sceen ? Well they should be doing something like
Eg
( Puting on and taking off their clothes ? )
😄😄

So what I mean for a " Previous Render "
Well say you did a sceen render with a female elf getting ready for bed ?
Well she could be getting undressed and in the next render she could be in her nightey ?

Ah, I see what you mean.
Yeah, I don't really worry about the order of the pictures for a particular scene.
If I am doing multiple, sequential scenes then, yes, I post them in order but not so much within individual scenes.
Thanks for watching!
