As much as I would kind of like to see Akili win and avenge Mowgli knowing the traditional trend in these stories I have a feeling Kaa will ultimately get the upper hand.

That is true but then there was a series of Disney magazines with text stories of various characters from Disney films with picture illustrations years ago in the 1970's and their Jungle Book stories depicted Kaa as the friendly snake from the original version, who would always strive to protect Mowgli from Shere Khan with the regular help of Bagheera, Baloo and even King Louie of the apes who was specially created for the Disney movie.
