First in a series of character-design sketches for the June 2006 NanoMango (which is much like NanoWrimo, only it's for artists as opposed to writers, is held TWICE a year (June and November), and is much, much smaller). The goal was to produce thirty pages of sequential story art for thirty days. I made turned out all of seven, down from my all-time-best, fourteen. But I was happy with the stuff I did do, and I'm still pleased with the character designs. They're just rough sketches though, so they get plopped in the scraps.

For the record, I'd set my story in Sumeria about 5000 years ago, just as power was passing from quasi-emperor Lugalzageshi to the Akkadian warlord Sargon (which is historically accurate; I couldn't possibly make up names that ridiculous.) Gaved here is...too complicated to properly explain in an image description. I like how his scars and stump turned out, though.
