... as the last inklings of the sun's light fade into smoky blue, ahku's curiosity compels her forward. as she carefully wades her way towards the waterfall, ahku realizes the small shadow was cast by small crack in the rock. a twinkling blue light through the cave catches her gaze. although the water pounds down relentlessly against her back, ahku manages to squeeze through and finds herself in a time and water-worn cavern. the passage's walls--towering, glistening, magnificent--are home to hundreds of thousands of tiny twinkling lights. as her eyes instantly adjust to the darkness, the glow from the organisms grows brighter and brighter to almost blinding levels. she can only gape so long at the bioluminescent beings before scrunching her face and casting her face downwards into the water collected at her feet. staring at her reflection, haloed by the pale blue glow, ahku begins to, well, reflect on the day's journey and the strange circumstances which brought her here. the hues of blue bouncing off the walls invite a different calmness than the one she's used to overlooking the valleys of her mountaintop home. whereas there the grand vistas and blustering wind refresh her soul, the same way wet cloth laid out to dry in the sun is made new again, this secret cave's dark walls engender an all-encompassing sense of wonder. the blanket of twinkling stars stitched by her ancestors and the spirits of this world seen from the tallest peaks makes her feel alive. this scattering of organisms which emit their own light, rival the stars because they make ahku feel at peace.
