Description
"What do I need a Royal Adviser for?" Sombra questioned, "I can take care of myself. I'm a King."Sombra was in a board meeting with some royal officials, Ms Chestnut among the five. Over a half a century passed since the passing of his father and the young Kingdom of Canterlot had only grown. Discord, now going by the name of Captain Goody Two Shoes or Sir Discord for short, had recently partnered with Queen Chrysalis in defeating Cadence's army. Princess Luna had recently took a bright unicorn mare, Trixie, as her own personal apprentice. While there was great good in the years that passed, the Kingdom too had a few struggles. While trying to keep the peace between the unicorn, earth, and pegasus, the evil Princess Celestia has begun to cause ruckus and ruin. It pained Sombra each time he would brawl beside Luna, not only because it pained his dear friend Luna, but because each time he looked into those purple eyes, although they were filled with evil, he could still see the eyes of the one he lost long ago.
Not for long...
Sombra kept looking out the window as he could see that the sun was now setting. Soon, everything would be in place and the timing will be perfect. But he's going to miss it if this meeting goes on for any longer! He groaned silently to himself as the ponies around him argued about his fate. "I'm just saying King Sombra is a grown stallion and can take care of himself." one of the royals argued. "But we can't risk anything," the other protested, "We're this close to finally defeating that bratty thing, we so call a Princess!" "Alright now everypony," Chestnut stepped in, "I say we hold a few interviews and go off form their. If a King's Adviser doesn't work, than we'll just scrap the whole idea." The ponies all murmured in agreement as Sombra said to himself Whatever makes this meeting end as soon as possible. For Equestria's sake, this has gone on for almost three hours! "Than I say meeting closed," the eldest one said, "We will revisit this one year from now." "Yes!" Sombra said under his breath as Chestnut shot a look at him, clearly the only one hearing him. As the other ponies piled out, Chestnut turned to Sombra. He chuckled slightly, "What?" "A grown stallion, a King, and still acting like a teen." Chestnut said standing before him. "Can you blame me?" he asked with a sly smile. "Well I guess to be fair, you're still a teen being a unicorn of your type after all." Chestnut teased. Sombra rolled his eyes as he continued, "On a different note, now that the meeting is over, I'm off to meet my friends for the night." "Yes," she said looking at her clip board, "I haven't forgotten about your friends night out." "It's been so long since the whole gang has hanged together, of course I'm excited!" Sombra said as he added silently to himself My only chance to see her again. "Then I won't keep you another minute." Chestnut said. But before he left the room, Chestnut placed her hoof on his cheek as she locked eyes with him. "You've done so good as King, Sombra. They'd be so proud of you." she said bitter sweetly. Sombra was caught off guard by the sudden comment but smiled as he hugged her. He couldn't help but feel guilty as he thought Yeah, not telling the whole truth of what's really going to happen tonight. Great move, your highness. Pulling back he said, "Farewell." And with that he trotted out of the room.
"It's getting late, despite how much the night becomes more beautiful, it's getting late." Luna said with a searching tone. Luna, Discord, and Chrysalis were gathered around a statue. With Discord's help, the statue stood behind a tall hill where the moon's light shined down on the small flower patch, far from the castle. "Do you really think it's going to work?" Discord asked. "Of course it'll work! It has to work!" Chrysalis said in determination, "For too long they've been apart, they deserve to be with each other!" "For Sombra's sake, I hope it does work." Discord said fiddling with his glasses. "Do you even care?" Luna asked. "Of course I do!" he protested, "He's my best bud, he is in need of rescuing!" "Oh great, now you got him started." Chrysalis muttered. "And when someone's in need of rescuing," he said dramatically as he ripped off his fur, revealing a superhero costume, "Captain Goody Two Shoes is there!" Music played out of nowhere as his cape flowed in the wind. "Aw, my hero." came an amused voice. They all turned as Sombra stood there. The girls burst out into laughter as Discord blushed in sheer embarrassment. "Now whose going to save Discord from humility?" Chrysalis teased. Discord folded his arms in a huff as Sombra said, "Hey we're just teasing old friend." "You're lucky this is all to reunite with your Princess, otherwise I don't know what you would have done without me." he said simply. Chrysalis wrappe dher hoof around Sombra's neck as she shouted, "Yes! You shall be reunited if it's the last thing I do! All for the name of LOVE!" Sombra blushed as he said, "Okay Chryssie, calm down." "Hold your horses." Discord said. The three looked at him as he burst into tears. "Now why the long face?" he gasped between laughs, "That was funny!" "Sombra, it's time." Luna said. Sombra looked towards the sky. A row of nine stars aligned together with the moon. Sombra used his magic to hold up a ripped apart scroll. Holding it together he read, "When nine becomes one, the mirror shall be undone. For worlds will unlock, worlds will collide." Nodding at Luna, Luna fizzed her magic at the moon's aligned light with the stars. Pointing towards the statue, she used her magic to shoot towards it. Soon the side of the statue started to ripple and glow. Taking a step towards the ripple, Sombra placed his hoof to it. His hoof went through as he took a step back, gasping. "It worked." he said. Luna stopped as her head spinned. "I don't know how long this portal will stay open," she said, "This spell is the prototype from the real one, which is still left back in the other world. So go now and be back before the sun rises." Nodding, Sombra turned to the portal as he went through. A few seconds passed after he left as Discord asked, "Do you think we should worry about that spell? I mean, 'world's collide' doesn't concern anyone?" "OH Dissy," Chrysalis reassured, "Those are just there so that the spell could rhyme, nothing to worry about!"
"Leave me alone!" Luna's booming voice shouted followed by a slamming of a door. Celestia's cheeked fumed red as she replied, "Fine!" Turning her back to the door she said, "Stubborn filly!" Starswirl, who was standing there the whole time, called after Celestia, "Tia, I've told you a thousand times before-" "Not to argue with my sister," Celestia finished, "Yes I know, but; it wasn't my fault this time. You witnessed this!" "While tis true," Starswirl said, "As a Princess, you needn't be so cruel with your words." Celestia groaned as he continued, "A Princess finds a calm way to handle a problem." Starswirl could see the anger filled in Celestia as he sighed. "I'm going to go talk to her," he said, "You seem to need some time alone. Why don't you go out for some fresh air, yes?" She replied with a nod as Starswirl entered Luna's room.
As soon as he shut the door, Celestia let out a small cry as she rushed down the hallways. She kept running until she made it all the way up to the top of the castle's balcony. Opening the doors she ran towards the ledge as she flopped on the ledge. She cried softly as she looked up at the moon. "I don't want to fight anymore." she whispered. Perhaps most of the fighting was due to the Kingdom. It wasn't her fault everyone loved her more! It was wrong, however; for them to treat the night the way they do, Luna loves the night just as much as she loves the day. Casting her gaze out, she could see far out into the horizon. She slipped the crown off her head as she looked into her reflection. So much has happened in the time that passed. She had received a letter from the Hipporiffs, saying how they had now gone into hiding due to a thing called 'The Storm King'. Now she had to play the role as a mother to a small pegasus filly, who seemed to have great knowledge of magic. And now. more often than not, did Luna seem to be so dark anymore. So much, so much, it was too much! She growled as she tossed her crown aside as it tumbled back to the door. She went back to crying, feeling so helpless, so alone. As the crown rolled into the room, it was stopped by a hoof. Picking it up, the stallion held the crown in his hoof. His soft green eyes gazed upon the mare in utter pain. After all these long years, she was their, crying. Smiling he slowly walked towards the door, trying not to startle her. Softly knocking on the door frame, Celestia's ears flicked. Oh no. I better think of a good excuse. she said lifting her head up. "Forgive me, I was out here getting some fresh air-" she started as she turned to meet who had stumbled upon her in this embarrassing situation. Whatever she was about to say next, was gone in an instant as her eyes widened in utter shock. Standing their, proud and tall, holding her crown in his hoof, was Sombra as his shining green eyes looked back at her. A soft wind passed as she whispered, "Sombra?" Taking a step forward he said, "Hehe, it's been awhile, eh Tia?"
She blinked a few times before turning her head away. Sombra tilted his head. Was this a bad idea? he asked himself. "Sombra," came her sweet voice, softer than any bird call, "Can you come stand by me." Coming to her side, they looked out into the horizon. A few minutes passed, a soft wind passing. "So, how have things been?" she asked. "Well," he replied, "The Kingdom's thriving. A few tiffs, but they are under control." "Good feedback about you and your ruling?" Oddly specific Sombra thought, "They trust me." Celestia closed her eyes, "How do you do it?" "What?" he asked. "Lead an entire Kingdom on your own?" she said. He didn't reply as she continued, "How do you put up with all the reporting problems? Handle public situations? Re-sure the public that everything's going to be alright when a threat arises?" He flinched as she snapped her gaze to his, tears streaming down her face. "How do you make amends with the ponies you love? Handle the everyday tasks of running a Kingdom?" He could feel his heart crack as she said, "How is it when I'm surrounded by so many ponies and yet I feel so alone?" She turned away as she said, "All I ever do anymore is argue with Luna, screw-up, I couldn't even manage to save myself from a fire that broke out in the castle!" Her tears fell down her cheeks as she said, "I don't deserve the love these ponies give me that Luna yearns for. I don't deserve to be their Princess."
Silence filled the air as Sombra looked at her. His heart ached to the fullest to see this sweet Princess in this state, his Princess. Heart pumping, his eyes shimmered as he cupped his hoof around Celestia's chin. Tilting it up, her teary gaze met his welcoming eyes. He placed the crown on the ledge, for a second, as he pushed some hair away from Celestia's face and wiping a few tears away. She sobbed a little as Sombra calmly shushed her. "Shh," he whispered, "There's no need to cry." He brought her into a hug as he said, "It's going to be alright." Celestia could smell the sweet scent of forest and chestnut on his clothes as she returned the hug, burring her face into his soft neck fur. For a few moments they stood there as Sombra pulled back to look into her eyes again. Grabbing her crown, he softly placed it on her head. Placing his hoof under her chin again he said, "A wise pony once told me, we are never alone. Never think you're not enough because you are." His heart pounded in his chest as he could feel his ears burn, but; pressed on, "You are more of a Princess than you think." he said, "And no matter what, I will always be here for you." Celestia's eyes twinkled, a small blush appearing as he heart throbbed. Not a moment longer passed as Sombra brought Celestia forward, softly pressing his lips to her. Celestia didn't protest as she pressed forward to deepen the kiss. As the night went on, nothing else mattered. What will only last for a few moments longer, will last forever always to them. From that point on, they didn't care how they could see one another. What mattered was to be there for each other. To promise the other, to their forever always.
THE END
Going to be honest, I did not anticipate for this to be a year long story. Funny how one little entry, meant to be a one time deal, turn into this amazing AU story of an already cannon ship. It's been real and fun but now's time to go work on some Next Gens....
