Description
This is how the "Plumber and the Princess" looks with its shadow box. It's currently being shown in the Animazement XIII art show. The shadow box was constructed by my friend Pete Williams who does custom cabinetry, and designed and painted by me.
I wanted the finished look of the piece with the shadow box to mimic the stage-like appearance seen in the games cut scenes and fights so it truly feels like a part of the Paper Mario experience.

EDIT: The piece sold for $100 USD at the Art Auction and won 1st Place in the Art Contest for 3D Art.
EDIT II: This piece was featured in a DA News article: [link]

Ha! That turned out great. I like that you actually used the fabric curtains on there too.

THAT IS AMAZING. One of the most clever pieces I have seen on DA. So worth the price. If I had the money I would buy it in a heartbeat. GREAT WORK

The 'frame' this piece is in is the shadow box.
shadow box – noun - a shallow, rectangular frame fronted with a glass panel, used to show and at the same time protect items on display, as paintings, coins, or jewelry. Also called shadow box frame.
Because the piece itself in a little over 1.25" thick, I couldn't put it in a normal frame. Hence the use of the shadow box.

It was a process and a bit of experimenting. I hadn't done anything quite like this before. Plus, I got help from an old friend of mine for the box itself.
It wasn't necessarily 'hard'. I was using a variety of skills I'd used individually. It was simply figuring out the process and taking the time needed to complete everything.
