Good question, but now that I think about it, did she have bite marks on her neck yet? Maybe she was just some kind of mutated human?

well, with her dad being a demon, maybe at a young age she could survive in the sun, but as time goes on she can't last out in the sun anymore.

I always took it that she was a half demon that was later turned into a vampire later on.

If you notice in any episodes/flashbacks that she's younger in, she doesn't have bite marks. She also doesn't really "act" like a vampire, so to speak. She never floats, eats actual food (as a vampire, she should only eat/be able to eat the color red) and walks around in the sunlight without any problems.

Likewise, in Finn the Human, we see an alternate timeline where theMushroom  Bomb never went off and the land of Ooo did not come to be. In this universe, we see a Farmworld Marceline who ages  naturally (albeit is extremely long lived), and does not seem to have any of her vampire powers. 

Admittedly, with both the way vampirism works in this universe and the details of Marceline's past, we really only know as much as AT cares to share with us, but from what I've seen, I piece it together something like this:

-Marceline is born to Hundson Abadeer and an unknown human woman

-At some point, Marceline and her mother are living outside of the Nightosphere, likely away from Hundson

-The Mushroom War occurs. The bomb kills or mutates most of the human population. Marceline's mother is likely dead, but she survives as a result of her demon heritage.

-Marceline meets up with Simon. They travel together for a while, before he is forced to leave her due to unknown circumstances, although they are likely tied in to his insanity brought on by the crown.

-Marceline travels on her own for a while, as seen in Memory of a Memory. She's already met Simon and lost him, as Hambo is present.

-Marceline is reunited with her father in what appears to be her late teens. She still is not a vampire, as she had intention to eat human food in what appears to be a broken down diner in post-war earth, when the "Fry Incident" occurs.

Now, given her age of roughly 1006, that leaves nearly a millennium in which she might have been found by a vampire and bitten for unknown reasons. Given her appearance, it was likely around 18-20.

Just all speculation, mind, but it's as logical as anything else I've been able to come up with.
