Stormseeker era,Comic-story
Battle for Scraparp,
Siege of Ironhill Village
Chapter 13.5:
The Hunter
Chapter 13: [link] Note: Does not continue from Chapter 13, but occurs at the same time
Continues from: [link]
It was about an hour later when Sora reached the place that she last heard the warmech was sighted. There were ruins everywhere, as well as massive footprints gouged into the rubble-filled streets.
"Korran Street...." she mused to herself. "Hmmm.... Least the info by the salamanders was correct."
Though as expected, the Warmech had long moved on. She sighed, if it wasn't here, she would have to go after it. Though first, she decided that perhaps some dinner was in order.
Silently, she darted into one of the ruined buildings, went upstairs to the second floor through whatever was left of the staircase, taking passing interest in the few salamander and cultist corpses in the building. She casually checked her ammunition.
4 magazines. She knew that after that she had to resort to using standard issue rounds, which though plentiful, were much less accurate and damaging.
Guess it served her right for being trigger happy and using two magazines in the first firefight. But she smiled instead, because somehow she felt it was worth it.
She took out her palmtop, and had a look, quickly scribbling down a log before taking a field ration packet out of her field pack. She opened it and took a bite....
"Gross." she thought as she swallowed the mildly tomato-tasting, squishy chunk... that she swore had a hint of squid and prawn taste mixed in it as well. Sora long gave up wondering how these field rations were made, and just steeled herself to eating them, no matter how revolting they were. Though this one kind of took the cake and she looked at what was written on the packet.
It read:
Field Ration, Pack C
Tomato Seafood Rice
"Tomato seafood rice? Of all things...." she thought. Despite the taste, she just kept eating.
Then, instinctively, her ears twitched as she looked at the nutritional table of the packet. She heard faint scampering noises behind her, she also felt a hostile presence nearby. Closing her eyes briefly, she pinpointed the source.
"Lesser daemon." She thought and relaxed, then she continued reading what was written on her half-eaten packet of food. All the while casually playing with her stainless steel fork.
Suddenly, she threw the fork towards her right, just like a thrown dagger. She heard an audible CRUNCH and smiled briefly. The fork was thrown with such force that it punched straight through the daemon's exoskeleton, through it's skull and pulping it's brain. She casually looked at the blood and brains that splattered on the floor next to her and chuckled to herself when she heard a soft thud outside as the daemon fell 2 stories and impacted the unforgiving concrete pavement below.
"Now how do I dispose of the rest of this packet..." She thought. Although fully capable of eating the rest, she somehow decided not to. The prospect of keeping a half-eaten packet of disgusting food in her field pack wasn't exactly nice (in case the food goes everywhere). Also leaving the packet around isn't professional as daemons can use it to pick up her sent.
Then her ears twitched again and she looked across the room. A drakenfox crawled out from under a pile of rubble. The creature apparently buried itself and took a quick nap to escape the firefight and was apparently awoken by the scent of food. It yawned, sniffed the air intently, then trotted up to her and sat down in front of her.
"Mreuuuuu........" It went, eyeing the packet in her hand.
Sora smiled again. "How convenient." she thought. Knowing full well that drakenfoxes will probably eat the packaging as well as the leftovers of these field rations.
Before she left to continue her hunt, she hastily took out her palmtop and scribbled something in it.
"Must remember to get a new fork..." she muttered to herself, before setting off into the darkness.

Field rations
Excerpt from: Orders to soldiers handbook:
You WILL eat this stuff or starve in the battlefield. You WILL consume your rations as it gives you the energy and strength to fight off the enemy scum. Field rations are designed to give enough energy and nutrients to soldiers operating in prolonged engagements outside bases.
Believe in our military equipment and we shall win this war.
Order from Coalition military high command.

Art notes
What's this? A Battle for Scraparp comic-story that is not in my scraps? Blasphemy
Well, It was partly due to that made me think that perhaps I could try posting some of the comic-story to my deviations.
This one was perfect. Cause it is a diversion from the main storyline. (of Bink and Kavez )
Chronicles Sora...... A strange Foxxar (fox anthro) "Archon" soldier that appeared suddenly and mysteriously in the main comic-story.
Also cause kinda was interested in what happened to her after chapter 9 of the comic story.
And yes, just shaded, text added with photoshop, but traditional art as the art itself is purely pencil drawn.
The war continues.
Also
"Tomato seafood rice" May be familiar with some of those who served the Singaporean Army before (It was the flavour of one of the supposedly worst tasting rations in my particular batch )
and yes,
Forks are a lethal weapon if put in the correct hands.

Hee, hee thanks for the continuation of her tale! =^^=
Ah the pleasure of MRE's I appreciated most of them, from Treadpads (Chocolate brownies) to particle board blocks (Oatmeal bar P: )
Of course the universally despised on was vegetarian pasta! =x.x= (Must find small animal to kill and eat! )
And each meal came with it's own spoon!

Yes.....
Though likely the next continuation of this unusual soldier's tale will be much much later.
Mmmm MREs..... Don't worry, Roth will be eating some of them
though oddly enough a metal fork is a standard issue item here.
And thanks for the fav.

Hey,question. You draw individual pictures, and then put them together, or some other method?

Hmmm
Actually I draw all of them on a single piece of paper, then use photoshop to add the text and the black lines to separate the frames.
Though If you're actually considering it, MS paint works just as well.

forks only one of many things you don't realize can be lethal.
food rations, sounds like the MRE, contains all your daily nutrients and you WILL eat it.

Field rations are another name for MREs. They're the same thing anyways.
Well, forks are lethal, if used by the correct people.

bronzetitan In reply to Snowfyre [2007-11-03 15:48:37 +0000 UTC]
the standard issue MRE takes longer to eat then just pulling a fork out and opening the package. But i do know about how they taste. Some are deliciuos while others or straight out disgusting(MRE spaghetti).

Hmmm I donnoe. With her strength, probably quite a few ways.
Though story-wise she'll make some random appearances for now, though this odd character will wander alone for quite a while. Currently more mysterious character, more info probably later.
