Description

Quick note: I'm considering moving these two away from the mangrove camp since it was never my intention for them to be alone. If any participants are planning to show up there soon speak up now or they'll be hauling ass elsewhere by the next chapter.

A hard running fight with a healthy dose of strutting and preening later and they had lost the mammoth bird. They were a hot and sweaty sight that went unseen in the otherwise unpopulated jungle they backtracked through. It had been a long enough flight that mangroves were mixed in among the other trees and they soon stumbled into the inland stream.

It was somewhere upriver of where they had bedded down last night. The flow of water was barely a trickle in places as it wound through the thick peat mud. Lexi had been on the verge of following Gully’s example and burying her nose in a deep enough area to suck up a drink when a much more appealing option caught her normally oblivious eye. She pried the bottle out of the bottom of the puddle she had been that close to drinking from. Even rinsed out it had the yellowish tinge of aged plastic, but it didn’t smell off and held water like it should.

“Gully, can you even purify water?”  Her eye was distorted by the curved bottle as she took note of the floaty bits swirling inside. A part of her stomach flipped uncomfortably at the thought of taking in something so obviously unsanitary. The larger half was too thirsty to care. “I’ve been wondering. You have a horn. I mean, it’s obvious you have one single horn, but are you a Unicorn unicorn, or just a unicorn? Ya know what I mean?” Lexi sloshed water from the bottle about as she waved it for emphasis.

Gully had no idea what she meant.

Unlike others who would have taken the pony’s blank look and sudden interest in scratching an itch off his forehead as sign that he didn’t care so long as she stopped questioning his credentials Lexi took it as an answer. “So it’s just for show…” She gingerly took a sip of brackish water. Really taking her life in her hands here now that she knew she didn’t have a Unicorn, just a unicorn.

I feel like this describes that whole incident with the giant chicken monster Don't worry, Gully sheds no tears over being 'just a unicorn'.

Aw, he's not just a unicorn. He will always be a big, fat UNICORN for me. ;3
Poor Lexi looks like she really could need some sun lotion, by the way. XD

That he will, until he goes on a low fat rainbow diet.
That kid needs a lot of things and lotion is only the start. Maybe she'll lose the burn now that she's met some new people that are less survival challenged.

'just' a unicorn...haha...not sure Gully could ever be 'just' of anything Not sure if she should really be drinking that either, but wandering delirious through the jungle could make for interesting encounters and not knowing how you got there.

You'd be welcome to join C&C (sounds like a lawfirm ) if you'd like.

She's had to drink the water already, she's just in a position now to feel more choosy about what she's eating since starving isn't going to happen. Doesn't mean she can't get a bad batch of muddy water though I might do that since it looks like C&C INC is active and getting fun prompts (and it has people that find food by means other than chance XD)

True...never know what an innocent bit of water might be hiding after all.

Haha...admit it, it's the smell of roast dinner that does it, isn't it I think C&C Inc march on their stomachs. The world might throw chaos their way but it shall be very well-fed chaos

Lol, thinking of Gully as "just a unicorn" We know you're more than that, Gully, even if you aren't the Disney version!

I think Fae will be moving on in the next chapter too, I haven't decided which camp yet as she's not going to strike out on her own either. The question is whether to reunite her with her person or not- she's not terribly useful on her own

Well if he can't purify water what kind of unicorn is he? Not much of one at all is what ;D Good thing he has more than an alicorn going for him.

Gully could be Mary-Sue level useful if he had thumbs... Mine will probably end up headed for the cliffs since they've already been across the shoreline in the other direction and found nothing. The firefly pony (aka miniature nightmare) may be haunting Fae for a while if they end up headed the same way
