Description
(probably going to need to download to read the text properly)...Yay for worldbuilding?
I've been pretty busy for the past week or so due to real life (nothing bad, just a lot going on), and I've had the urge to design stuff from that story I keep updating from time to time. I've got some other good ideas, but in the meantime I have this little exercise here.
So! Building a culture of wolf shapeshifters poses some interesting questions: how much would individual populations intermix, and how would they identify other populations within their species? Are there distinctive 'breeds' or 'races' among these creatures? 'Breed' would imply some sort of selective breeding or domestication done by a third party, so that didn't fit. 'Races' opens some general language issues with the audience, so I wasn't keen on using it.
I've opted from the term 'lineages' instead. It fits since my concept of these guys gives them a little bit of a heraldic or genealogical streak - they find it important to keep tabs on who their ancestors were. So I've put down a few examples of lineages from my story, given a little physical description of recognizable traits from that lineage, and given them a little flavor text. I also had this line art that I wasn't doing anything with so I used that to design a few examples of each lineage. The Harlequins were by far the hardest and most fun to come up with. Some of their designs stray into the bizarre compared to how 'normal' wolf markings go, but then again having bits of random genetic material from other species could easily do that in a fantasy world.
None of those designs are deliberately characters from my story, they're just coat pattern designs pasted on a generic lineart. Nor are these really intended to be 'adoptables' or anything (I don't really get that whole thing). I guess if there's a design you really desperately like and want to use, let me know and I'll probably say "yeah, sure." You want to design a wolf character based on these lineages? Yeah, why not? If you do, link me back to it, I'd love to see it!
TL;DR Version: Derp! Lookit all the purdy wolfies!
