Description This isn't necessarily a final design, but this slightly more creature-like demoness is probably the direction I'm going to take in re-imagining them for Smacky's story. I'd still like to find a less reptilian skin to blend in, but this one is about all I have at the moment that looks decent. As I know some of you may not care for this look, please let me explain some of the reasons why I'm considering it.

* I'm rather dissatisfied with the fantasy clothing options for the Genesis 2 Female so far. Most of them are neither practical or ridiculously impractical; they're too revealing for a heroine or average fantasy female, but in my opinion they're not revealing enough for a demoness or a pinup from a Frazetta or Boris painting. Using V4 clothing is getting to be a pain because I end up having to repaint half of it by hand in the end due to mesh distortion from conforming or pokethrough from having to be parented rather than fit to the figure. Vaene, Pype, and Vyle will still wear clothes, this is just the idea for generic demoness minions.

* Up to now, the demonesses in my Smacky images have really only been shapely women with wings. They're supposed to be physical manifestations of dark underworld spirits, and yet they never do anything otherworldly except occasionally breathe fire. Giving them creature features accomplishes some important things:

  - It helps to clearly define them as enemies.

  - Better justifies their superior height and strength.

  - Possibly allows them to appear without wings in battle scenes. Not having them in the way would make it much easier to assemble large fights against many demonesses, as well as allowing Smacky to perform attacks on them that would be difficult to do when their wings are extended (like grappling, anything from behind, etc)

  - Makes me feel better about having Smacky dispatch them with blades. I never felt all that comfortable making images of Smacky slaying demonesses with swords when they just looked like attractive women. Adding a little bit of beast to them makes it more clear that the heroes are fighting an enemy that is not of this world and that cannot be reasoned with.

I've made a lot of small but important changes to Smacky's story in the last week trying to fix plot holes and explain why things happen the way they do. Important essentials haven't changed though; there will still be lots of sexy women and lots of punching. Some outfits may change in time (I've experimented a little with a more practical fighting outfit for Smacky, but it won't be ready any time soon), and I'm trying to slowly develop some new abilities for Smacky so she can do something other than punch (she does have a ridiculous way of getting places in a hurry now), but I'll try hard not to stray too far from what you already like about her and my art.

Thanks as always for taking a look!

Hey Snow.  Did you abandon this concept?

Hey, hope you're well. Not entirely, but I'm sticking with the gold-pasties and no scales for the moment because gold comes out much better in my renderer than skin.    I haven't really decided on the circumstances when flaemes will or won't wear clothing or show any sort of monstrous attributes.

Do you still want the PSD? I don't know exactly where or even if I still have it, but I can look if you want. Thanks!

Understood!  And things are well, indeed.

If you still have it, I wouldn't mind playing with it!

Where did you get that skin? Did you make it yourself? How, LOL?!

I think I just painted on the render with a clone stamp tool using a lizard skin brush at light opacity. Sometimes the far less complicated methods works.

Nice work! Is this rendered with iRay?

No that one isn't actually. My latest two were Iray though, and I'll probably be doing everything in Iray from now on. Thanks very much!

"they're too revealing for a heroine or average fantasy female" Oh noes tell me you didn't join the bandwagon of anti-sexy fantasy outfits

Haha no, I just prefer them to be one or the other. I don't like when a nice leather armor set has a giant opening under the breasts or what could be a useful peasant dress has a very low cut top. I either want practical fantasy wear or totally impractical gold breast stripper pasties.

Looks really great, and I think your reasoning for shifting this way makes a lot of sense.

I really understand how you feel.

I did wonder why Smaky was so into dispatching so many females... even though they are supposed to be evil... but to our eyes, they still looked like pretty females.  You keep thinking/hoping that these women/creatures could have redeeming features and perhaps need not be slain.  But if you showed her to be pretty but reverted to something ghastly looking when fighting, well that would really make you root for Smacky... I think you do need your audience to take her side and root for her.  Hope this helps.

Thank you, those are all very good points and many of the same things that were bugging me all along. The demonesses never really looked that evil because, with the exception of my image "Hot Lips", I've never really shown them actually *being* evil. In the story, they are (Vaene wreaks havoc in the Sultan's palace after she's summoned, Pype is a sadist, Wyne is a murderer, and the demons' primary goal is to eliminate as many fae as possible in preparation for a large attack), but since I haven't written much of the story out, not many viewers will know any of that.

Much appreciated!

I really like where you're going with this! Adding some positive displacement to the scales is the only change I'd consider.

I feel your pain on the clothing selection for g2f. That and the limited amount of good hair models available are my biggest gripes with the otherwise fantastic figure.

SnowSultan In reply to shotgung0d [2015-02-25 18:14:51 +0000 UTC]

The displacement was bugging me a lot too, that texture only has a bump map and I couldn't get the results I wanted using it. For a more serious pic, I'd probably paint some details and raised scale edges by hand.

I agree about the hair, but I think it's mostly because the transmapping technology is starting to look a little dated (I had to paint parts of the hair in this render too because of weird meshes and dark areas). Our figures and clothing are really detailed but we still use the same methods for hair that we did back in Poser 4. I hope the next big advancement in DAZ Studio is the sort of hair that can be made in Blender.

Thanks, glad you think so! I didn't want to go too far with the creature look and I'll still consider clothing if something just right comes along. Hopefully it'll add a little bit of originality to them at least.
