Yep it's happening, Snow's making an AU
Be warned though that I know barely ANYTHING about Sonic lore, this is just an AU I'm making for fun and so I can give Adelaide a backstory

Haven't really thought of a name for this AU, Gaiaverse is just a placeholder name for now!

So this AU takes place during the events of Sonic Unleashed, Eggman's got the chaos emeralds (thanks a lot Sonic) and reawakens Dark Gaia. The thing is, in this AU, Dark Gaia is the reason the emeralds lose their power, as when it's reawakened, it drains the power of the emeralds. The same thing happens with Sonic gaining some of Dark Gaia's energy and transforming into the werehog, not much of a difference there. However, the major difference in this AU is that both Light and Dark Gaia lose their memories. I like to hc that the form that Chip takes in Unleashed isn't actually his true form, so I took that hc and applied it to Dark Gaia, resulting in the form that you can see above. They're similar to Chip, but also still keep design elements of their true form.

Same thing happens from the game - Sonic and Light Gaia meet up, and Chip is given his nickname. After this, the two start their journey to figure out what's going on and to fix the planet. While this is happening, Dark Gaia is found by Adelaide (my OC), and the two decide to figure out who Dark Gaia is (who is given the nickname Rocky). The two become friends pretty quickly, and eventually they meet up with Sonic and Chip near one of the Gaia Temples. The two groups quickly discover that Chip is able to 'activate' (I don't know what he does actually but I'm going to call it that) the temples in order to restore the emeralds, but Rocky cannot. This is because Dark Gaia is the one who drains the power of the emeralds, whilst Light Gaia restores the power (at least in my personal hc).

Another thing to note is that because Sonic has a bit of Dark Gaia's energy in him (causing the werehog), Rocky is slightly weaker than Chip while they restore all of the chaos emeralds. Because Dark Gaia never split apart into pieces, the Gaia Minions never existed, which means that most of the enemies either don't exist or are replaced with robots created by Eggman. Speaking of which, for most of this AU, Eggman has been able to track Rocky to the locations that the group are heading to. Nobody knows that they're being tracked, though. At this point in time, Chip and Rocky have started to become friends, still not knowing who the other truly is.

Eventually, the two do find out who they actually are, and upon finding out that they're supposed to be enemies, decide that they don't want to fight anymore. They don't know if they can make that choice or not, but after everything that's happened, all they both want is to restore the planet back to normal, and continue restoring the chaos emeralds. Near the end, Eggman shows up and captures Rocky, aiming to use them for his own goals.

By doing so, Eggman is able to force Rocky to transform back into their true form, which is the Dark Gaia we know from the game. When this happens, the Dark Gaia energy within Sonic is returned to Rocky, removing the werehog form. Similar events from the game occur, with Chip using all of the temples to fight Dark Gaia, but instead of aiming to stop it, he wants to save Rocky from Eggman. Rocky doesn't want to fight either, but is forced to by Eggman, and even after all of these events happen, they still feel terrible for what they did.

The group succeed in saving Rocky and restoring the planet, but here is where another major difference happens: Instead of staying behind and sending Adelaide and Sonic back to the surface, all four of them escape. This happens because unlike in Unleashed, Chip doesn't have to stay behind to keep Dark Gaia under control, since Rocky has been saved. Being saved results in Rocky transforming back into their other form, and the two Gaias decide to stay with the others and live on the surface with their new friends. Rocky chooses to stay with Adelaide, while Chip decides to travel the world a bit more and occasionally helping Sonic and his friends if needed. Adelaide and Rocky also help out, but since Adelaide isn't as skilled compared to the others, she tends to stay behind and sometimes practice her fighting skills.

On another note, I like to headcanon that Chip in Unleashed never really used his Light Gaia powers as much as he did due to him not completely remembering how to use them. Due to this, I think that both Chip and Rocky would sometimes spend their time hanging out and training together. I can imagine that they would be training one day, and out of nowhere Rocky manages to summon one of the smaller Gaia minions without even realising it. Not sure what powers Chip would have, though.

Anyway yeah! This is the AU, I'm sorry if it's similar to any other AUs that people have created, I promise I'm not trying to copy anything!

I know that at least one person would be asking "Why did you include your own OC in this AU instead of (insert canon character here)?" And to answer that question - I just really wanted to Adelaide doesn't have much of a backstory and when I came up with the idea for this AU I saw it as a chance to give her a backstory! ^^
