Description
A good friend and mentor.Inspired by Al Hirschfeld. It's fun exploring this style.
It's also incredible how long it can take to make something so simple.
Sketched in Painter IX, line art in Illustrator.
26 hours. Completed 2 days ago :)
I was glad to see him smile.

Elegant, graceful, and beautifully articulate; the "line king" has found an heiress...

With this style of drawing, I really think you could be an artist for a magazine or something.

He liked it, and said that I'm "actually really good at drawing", in a way that kind of surpised him, I think. Because so far, he's only seen The Test Tube Babies, which I think is the tip of the iceberg to the many areas of styles I've experimented in.
God I sound cocky :D

She-at, 26 hours? Its not i think its not worthy, but i'm in awe of how you could spend 26 hours on something and have it end up so skillfuly uncluttered and simple. I get to the stage of nice simplicity and think, "i've only been doing this for half an hour, i need to do way more before i could call it done" and it ends up all messy and crap. I think you must have an excellent skill here, i really like these things coming from you. Quite remarkable.

Thank you :)
It's like Al Hirschfeld himself said once, that if he doesn't have time, he draws complicated images. When he DOES have time, they turn out simple.

masterful. those lines are flawless, my dear.
reminds me of something i would see in the pages of The New Yorker, a famous mag here famous for its charactures and articles.
from what you depict here, i can tell the person was kind, a gentleman, had class, and that you care about him a great deal.
very nice.

Oooh you've got to be kidding me. The artists for The New Yorker are fucking rad. I only wish to be as good as they are. Someday, I shall. Working on it every day
And yes, he's a real gentleman, and a very good friend indeed. He's done a lot for me. He completely changed my life.
