Gypsy is a racist word and it's a racist notion to associate 'gypsies' or travellers with witchcraft. Most travellers have nothing to do with magic and it's a negative stereotype to say they do. Perhaps you should rename this deviation.

Well, I'm a half-gypsy and I don't find the word 'Gypsy' or any jokes about magic offensive in any way. You really shouldn't decide for others what they should find offensive.
Stereotypes are fun: Russians are drunk, British can't cook, Gypsy are doing magic. It's not racist, because nobody is actually discriminated.

Look, I've talked to travellers before and most agreed that they found the word Gypsy offensive and even if they didn't mind most came to the agreement that the stereotype that travellers are drunken, gap toothed, old witches that go around cursing people is harmful to their communities. Even ones where they are pictured as beautiful witches just increases discrimination that they're witches, which further ostracises them from non-traveller communities. Stereotypes aren't funny. The stereotypes you named aren't stereotypes about races but about countries, whereas 'Gypsy' stereotypes happen to be about a race and most of them are negative.

I've already said to the person here that a person of traveller heritage is allowed to use and reclaim the word gypsy because it's yours to do with what you will. However, most 'travellers' and Roma I've spoken to have shown distaste for the word and the stereotype that all 'gypsies' are witches.

I didn't say it's wrong to be a 'gypsy'. That statement is ridiculous in itself because being a traveller or Roma is a race, therefore calling it wrong is illogical. I'm saying it's wrong to assume all travellers are witches because it's incorrect and it does harm the community. I only noticed this persons work since I'm a practising witch who was scrolling through the witchcraft tag. Perhaps some travellers do practice the craft, and that's nice to know, but the generalisation of that can be blown out of proportions at times.

Oh dear God, have you ever heard of stereotypes? It's not wrong, it's a stereotype. And it's been exploited for a purpose of having fun. And there's nothing that is wrong with it. No Gypsy has been harmed by this picture, neither did it hurt any witch.

I never said that 'gypsy magic' was offensive. You've completely missed every point I've made. I said that associating all travellers with witchcraft is wrong because in the past it's seen travellers wrongly accused and killed. Till this day people misrepresent travellers as all doing witchcraft, mainly what is seen as 'curses' and non travellers brand travellers as 'evil'. So though this picture may not say that directly, it contributes to the idea.

I said the generalisation of all travellers being witches is wrong and it's an unfair, negative assumption that most travellers find offensive. I suggested he change the title before anything, because on multiple occasions I've been told by other travellers that things like this are racist.
