Well, I can't explain it very well but I'll try to help. The skeleton and chair are very dark and easy to see. The girl and the mirror appears a little light and soft, this might have been you're intention, if so good job. Personally, I think the girl the mirror are a little "washed-out". I'd advise making the mirror a little darker so that the girl will stand out more, but I like the delicateness and the softness of the girl because it seems symbolic. Although it's not important to the picture the area under the table between the wall and floor isn't very pronounced, so the table looks a little like it's floating. My guess from what I see, the scanner probably washed out the picture a little, at least this is what happens to me.

thankyou, yeah that was the intention (i dnt really think it worked much either) i wanted to exaggerate the difference between her and the skeleton, but without using colour or patterns. plus if i made it too dark, it would over-complicated and confuse the picture
yeah god that table was a pain in the ass. the reason its not very pronounced is because there is no proper sense of perspective in this picture so i really did try aswell adding a line would make that more obvious unfortunately
yeah i know this picture defiantly needs redoing without all the faults, but it took so long and it was only really meant to be an experiment with lighting and shading (:

To me, it seems like someone who's dying and gets judged by others for looking different from their disease. They know what they look like but accept it and know the inside is what matters. They may look different on the outside but she's beautiful on the inside.
