It does a while I wanted to make this one.I had fun with the lighting. This time it's a little less "smoothed" to keep some texture.

The lighting makes him look so much more rounded, thats something I have a hard time with, getting things to look round when I color on the computer.

Well, depending on the program you use, the "hardness" of the brush can be reduced when drawing the shadows to make it look smooth.
If you have a tool called "Gaussian Blur" (Photoshop and The Gimp have it.) give it a try with your shadows, it might just do the trick.
I would like to give you more constructive tips... but I when I make the lighting, it's not by visual logic, but with "intuition"... There should be a lot of tutorials out there that can help you (and Google is your friend 
(But now I just took another look at your artworks and you seem to already know some tricks about shading... oh well, I hope that will help you anyway)
