Description
After some failed attempts of a snowflake macro I finally made it.Voila, the jewel of the crown
Enjoy !

Well it's not made with macro lens. I just used the normal 18-55 lens backward on the body of the camera so it's kinda F/infinite as you can see in the details of the photo.

the word infinite confused me a bit.
So you mean you can go as close as you want?

Not really but it is very close. A macro at 1:1 dimension is much farther than in my snowflake photo. I think somewhere around 2 to 5 mm of the subject and the magnification is also great as you can see.
Imagine that normal lenses take a big picture and make it smaller on the camera. When you invert the lens it takes something very small and make it bigger.

Soche In reply to stoicavictormarius [2010-01-19 22:42:03 +0000 UTC]

Desperate people...do amazing things! The snowflake turned out so great, I'm this close to try it myself.
Too bad I didn't see this yesterday, before my little photo session in the snow.

i'm going to guess that this is a bigger than lifesize macro shot? my shots at 1:1 are no way close to this close . Beautifull shot with excellent detail though. I've never seen a snowflake from so close.

Soche In reply to dmatsui [2010-01-07 23:16:49 +0000 UTC]
Well I don't have the money for macro lens, I have only a 70-300 tele-macro at 1:2 so I hold the normal 18-55mm lens backwards on my body.
Anything it's backwards this way. At 55 you are at the most farthest and at 18 you are closest. Imagine I was at few millimeters form the snowflake.
I have to mention that I can go closer than this. This one was at 24mm because at 18mm I was to close to the subject and only a little part of it was clear.
Glad you like it. Thanks and wish you a great year !
