What is your tip for taking this shot?

Well if you don't have macro lens you can use a reversing ring for the lens. If you don't have an inversing ring you can use your own hand do hold the lens backwards on the body of the camera.
Then all you need is to set the lens for desired distance. Beware that all is backwards, if you have an 18-55 lens 18 will be the closest and 55 the farthest. Then arm yourself with much patience and be still.
Its very hard to focus a subject while you are holding the lens with a hand so you must stay very still.
If you have an reversing ring you ca use a tripod and then all is easier.
Good Luck

I'm looking for a macro lens that can take far away shots too. I'm guessing the 55 is not that far? (as in the animal will run away)

They do have those, but I'm not sure which is better and reasonable price.

Well, a macro lens will always be more expensive as a normal 18-55mm or telephoto one so prepare do dig deep in your pockets.

I'm in the same situation But if you have patience with the backward lens you get great results. A reversing ring is very cheap

Many begginers will start with the 105 or 60mm macro lens (100mm if you are a canon user) These lenses will give you 1:1 focusing. The 100mm will give you more distance between yourself and your subject but at a cost. There are also the 180mm macro lenses sigma being a popular one in this category but obviously being much more expensive then the 60 or 105mm options. These are the dedicated macro lenses as soche mentioned there are other options.
If you have the money go for the 105/100 mm lens. It is slightly more expensive but in my opinion worth the extra working distance.

I really appreciate this Thank you !
The hardest part was to keep the lens and the body (cammera) still in -5 degrees without a tripod
I can't find right now a reversing ring for my type of lens and don't have money for a macro one. But I'm happy with the result and the improvisation
Thanks again. You have a very nice gallery !
